    April trip with kids?

    Hey all,

We're looking for a destination for spring break this year (early April) with kids aged 7 and 9. We're from Bellingham, so the kids are used to biking at Galbraith, and don't mind moderate climbing.

It seems that the Southwest in general would be our best bet for less snow. Places we've looked at include Moab, Fruita, Baja, and Sedona. Also open to Southern Arizona, NM, etc.

Not too worried about temperatures, but mostly want snow free, and more interested in moderate cross country in beautiful settings than DH.

Ideally, we'd find a small mountain/desert town to base out of for a week or so (not interested in bigger cities like Phoenix, etc.) We'd be flying from Seattle with our bikes. TIA!

Great question! If you guys are used to riding Galbraith, then you can ride anywhere!
:-) There are some incredible mountain bike destinations across the country that would be great for you. Our favorites for that time of year are Moab, Sedona, and Hurricane UT.

Here is a blog article that talks about the top 13 mountain bike towns with a guide for free camping! All of these destinations have incredible free camping options to reduce the cost of your trip (and increase your outdoor activities!), and there are some great destinations for April (without snow!).

I hope you find this useful, and have a fantastic trip! Shoot back any questions you have, I've personally been to all of these destinations and would love to help you plan!

    Best,
    Julie Singh

Thanks, Julie! There’s some great spots on this blog post (of course, most of the ones with a small town feel sound like they’re more summer destinations, not April.)

We may still check out Fruita as well.

Re: the Dollar lot in Bellingham, they are closed for camping (at least for now) but they do still have nice parking. We park there regularly since it saves us parking on and crossing a pretty busy road with the kids.)

Awesome! We may also head to Fruita soon as well (and maybe add it to our list :-) - we haven't made it there yet but are excited to check it out.

Thanks for the tip on the dollar lot - we will update our article accordingly! Have an awesome trip!
