Apparently he went over while trying to clean the crack at the choke point on the last bit out to the point. That's from facebook so not confirmed but really sad.

It's all speculation at best as nobody was with him.

No. Just that he was a visitor to the area.

I was almost that guy 20 years ago. I stuffed my wheel into the crack (stupidly) riding back from the lookout. Luckily I endo-Ed straight forward, another dude caught my bike with one hand while it was falling over the side. Luckily it was a really light Moots!
Scared the shˇt outta me, I never rode out to the point again.
    Dumb and cocky, lesson learned.
    Vibes to the dude’s family.

That's what the guys thought that found his bike. But agreed it's all speculation and a terrible tragedy.

I stop with my clients at that exact spot and show them that video from the cameras perspective. Puts it in a whole new light. At any other spot along the trail, we could and would do that feature. But...at that point, the consequences for failure are epic and total.

If it wasn't the spot in the video, is it at the other big viewpoint (dead end) to the West? We rode it in March and I'm trying to figure out where based on the description.

I have a severe fear of heights and wouldn't go within 20 feet of that cliff. If not even more...

I've hopped that crack on Amasa but a little little further in from the edge. I'm not sure what the heck that guy was thinking.

None of this took place in Moab.

Ah, I thought the vid Rockman posted was up on the Amasa mesa. I see it's Gooseberry now but strikingly similar.

Yeah, we're out here now and we were just at Gooseberry Mesa yesterday and I can figure it out either. I personally always ride out to the point myself and never think twice about it. My friends won't do it but they ride some alternate lines on Grafton that I won't even contemplate. Go figure.

Have fun k2 (if you're still there)! I hadn't ridden there before. We did JEM/Goosebump when we got into town. Did Gooseberry and then Church Rocks the next day, and then Zen the next morning before driving home. Had a blast. Good intro to St. George I think. Will definitely be back.

Well, when you live where you do, I can understand not wanting to leave very often. For us in SoCal, St George/Hurricane is 1/2 way to GJ/Fruita so that and Sedona are our "go-to" spots. Next time hit Little Creek, Grafton Mesa and Guacamole.
    Carpe Diem!!
