What are you doing to beat the summer heat?

I mostly ride from Ogden to Kaysville. There's not many trees to keep trails shady. I've been riding from 7pm-9pm, or using lights to ride after 10pm. I'm able to ride for several hours, but I bring spare batteries just in case.

What are you guys doing these days? I think it's only going to get hotter. Is Park City much cooler? How about shoreline trail in the Salt Lake area?

I was going to ride this afternoon, but at 7 it was still 100 degrees out. Ill be riding more of the trails below snow basin since its about 10 degrees cooler up there. I need to do some more night riding too.

Park City ain't much cooler. Salt Lake is just as hot if not hotter than Ogden. I did one ride up City Creek to Bobsled last week around 5pm and it was a scorcher. I never wanted to throw my helmet off a cliff so bad. The sweat just poured over my eyes like a waterfall!

Also, Snowbasin is only 10 cooler than the valley. 10 off 100? Big woop. Plus everyone and their brothers dog is up there trying to escape the heat. If you really want to cool off, you need to get up to 9000 feet.

Is there anywhere within an hours drive of Ogden that meets that criteria, @djw2jr? Is Powder Mountain Race loop so maintained?

I thought that there would be lots of great riding up here. Turns out the winters are too cold and snowy, and the summers are too blasted hot.

Yup, on the trails by 6 A.M. ride for a couple hours then look for some AC. I also ride along the river in Ogden after 8 P.M. so there is plenty of shade and the river tends to cool the air a bit.

Park City/Wasatch Crest have been quite pleasant. Accordingly to my Garmin, my average temp on the Crest ride I did last Thursday was 84*, so about 15* cooler than it was in the valley.

FWIW, I also rode Little Cottonwood Canyon quarry trail Saturday at 4:00, so at the peak of the heat (my truck showed 102* driving there), and while hot, it was bearable since that trail is in the shade much of the way.

Shoreline is terrible on a hot day. I rode Shoreline to Bobsled last summer on a 100* day, thought I was going to die!

Yup, ride early and at elevation. Be off the trails around noon. Then go get in the water go fishing after I ride. That's a proven summer strategy for me.
