What type of sunglasses for riding in Moab?

    Hi guys,

I'm living in Montreal, Qc, Canada and will be riding in Moab/Cortez/Fruita in late April. Since our climate and lighting conditions are pretty different (lots of woods/shades, etc.), I was wondering if my current sunglasses with a «medium» screen would be enough for riding there. I was planning on buying dark tinted/iridium type sunglasses, but I don't want to spend money if it is not absolutely necessary. Please, let me know.

    Thanks,

    It won't be absolutely necessary.

Your pair should be just fine, just as long as you don't stare at the Uranium tailings too long.

    Your really a planner.

I can honestly say I have not thought a trip through down tot he sunglasses before. I thought it was crazy when people planned tire selection.

Is this seriously a thread? I thought the (What tires do you recommend?) threads were bad enough, now we are asking sunglass advice? If you have to ask this question, I would probably bring any kind of lens you don;t care about because you will probably scratch the hell out of them when you crash.

i prefer a welding helmet. The solar rays are super intense in Moab to help burn out the stink of all the hippies in town.

To answer some questions and sarcasm up there, yes, I was serious. Experience has shown me that the better you're prepared, the less you have to worry once there, which makes a far more enjoyable trip, all other things being equal. I've since talked with a friend who made numerous trips in Moab and he told me that my actual sunglasses are OK. So, thanks to those who took the time to answer. Better safe than sorry.
