    Thinking about a date change for the Fears Tears and Beers.

    We've been holding the annual Fears Tears and Beers MTB Enduro on the second saturday in June for the past five years.

    The past two years have been cold and snowy and people have complained about the race conflicting with the Ashland 12 mile SuperD.

    We're thinking about changing it to July 9th for 2011.

    The risk of snow will be almost zilch and it will be too early for the monsoons, but it may be hot (85-95F).
    Trails will be more dry and loose but generally are still in really good shape.

    Does anyone know what other events this date may conflict with or have any input they'd like to share? Maybe you liked the snow.

    Well then, that date is clearly out. (And it's also the Downieville Classic)

    Anyone for June 25th?

    The weather made for a great story... but unfortunately wound up being extremely expensive as most people had to completely replace their drivetrains after the race, myself included.

    To me the biggest issue was the conflicting date with Ashland and the 6-hour race at Wolf Creek UT. But I have no idea if Ron is holding the 6-hour or not this year (only 22 or so racers showed up each time for its first two years of existence). Doesn't seem like many 2011 schedules are out yet.

    Either way I think I'd choose Ely over any other races for 2011 if there are conflicts, it's a cool event. Drier weather would definitely be a bonus though! June 25 sounds good to me.

    Yeah. The snow is a fun story to tell the guys back home..... but it's a lot more fun runnig this race in dry/tacky conditions rather than mud and snow. The thing about that second saturday is we usually get some rain and/or snow around the first week in June leaving the trails in perfect, hero dirt shape for the second weekend. We've just been unlucky the last two years and had the worst day of the month right on race day.

    I destroyed my drivetrain as well. Ended up replacing the crank/bb/rings, chain, rear derailleur, cassette, derailleur hanger, and brake pads for that bike after that mudfest.

    P.S. We seriously need to develop an enduro/super D series like the Italians around the Intermountain West:

    A regional series like that would be cool. I can think of several places within a half day's drive from me that could make for a really fun event.

    Thanks for the heads up on the Ashland race. We're still thinking about the 25th just because of the weather issues in early June though.

    I'll try and post something up as soon as we have a firm date.

    It's official June 11th, 2011

    We had our Great Basin Trails Alliance meeting tonight and voted on the date for this year's Fears Tears and Beers Enduro and have settled on Saturday, June 11th.

    We risk the weather but this really is the best weekend for us and our sponsoring Hotel. Plus most of the time it's the best dirt and weather as well. We've had rain/snow races the last two years but every other year it's been perfect..... and they've moved the Ashland 12-Mile Super D to the following weekend so no conflict there.

    Not only that..... it's my birthday!! Everyone will be obliged to go slow and let me win..

    So mark the date. Hope to see you there.

    June 11 conflicts with the Tour de Suisse, which is a pretty important lead up to the Tour de France.

    I'd like to see the UCI require every race to use 'Tour de' just so when interviewing someone from the Lone Star State about Lance we can hear Tour Day..... over and over again while they list all the Tour de's he's about to win.
    Tour de Tears, Fears and Beers
    Tour de France
    Tour de Stalingrad
    Tour de Guadalcanal.....

    Tour de PT 109.

    Despite the grab ass here, there is a serious discussion about your event going on behind the e-scenes.

    Dang!! And I was planning on entering that too. I figure I have a 50/50 chance of placeing in the Tour De _______ (Fill in the Blank).

    I guess our hopes of pulling in the Tour boys for our race just went down the tubes.

    Do tell. Care to include me in the e-mail loop. Maybe I could add some helpful info (although I doubt it).

    Well, poopy pants. The 11th is the day after my wife's birthday. Which means I'd have to leave on her birthday to make the race. Which ain't gonna happen. Poop.

    You do realize that gemini are the smartest, best-looking, and most talented, and most understanding types of all the astrological signs, right? Of course you do, you married one. I'm sure she'll understand.

    What you need to do is make the whole week her birthday week.
    Monday Day spa;
    Tuesday Dinner and a chick flick;
    Wednesday 12 dozen roses filling the living room when she gets home from work (with rose pedals trailing off to the bedroom);
    Thursday All day back rubs and foot massage;
    Friday a lovely trip to the second honeymoon capital of the world, fabulous, Ely, Nevada!
