Thank you St. George / Hurricane!

    Hi all,

My wife was competing in the pinnacle of Tri-Dorkdom last week in St. George and myself and a pal tagged along for the week to do some MTB. Met some great people along the way and shot some video. To recap our week:

Day 1: Anasazi, Barrel Roll, Barrel Cacti, Zen. Toast after that.
    Day 2: Little Creek
Day 3: Gooseberry and beyond. eight hour day!
    Day 4: Bearclaw Poppy
Day 5: Triple header: Rockville Bench, Prospector/Church Rocks, Paradise Canyon
    Day 6: Broken Mesa

Awesome rides across the board! A great mix of tech and flowy fast stuff. Highly recommended!

A big thanks to mtbr'ers Slowerthensnot, Shelby for showing us the goods! And OTE in Hurricane too

First vid, Little Creek (view on Vimeo for HD version):

Nice vid, you hit all the good stuff. One question, why the B line at the water fall?

I did... but since I'm cheap and Vimeo only lets you upload 1 HD clip a week with the free version, It will be a while

I've done two more clips, Zen, and Barrel Roll, just waiting to upload them. More to come!

Hey a off topic a bit, but I was wondering where I could pick up a good Green Valley trail map. I know there are a bunch of trails in there and I have hit a few but would like a good map of all of them. Also in green valley i have seen a trail that says its a downhill trail and was wondering if that was just a one way only xc trail or an actual dh bike trail. Thanks and sorry for a bit off topic just didnt want to start a new thread and great video by the way, those are some great trails.

Great video Phil. Loved the rock bridge at 2:20.

Sorry we weren't able to hook up when you were down. How'd your wife do in the Triathalon?

Love Little Creek. Lookin' forward to the rest of the vids.

Awesome!! I tried the exact same thing, but had a spotter Hopefully you corrected your front wheel and made it up? I spun out

Thanks for asking, my wife had a great race despite being sick all week leading up to it. She did a 1:25 swim, 7:00 bike and 4:50 marathon... she cracked on the second leg of the straight up, then back down run course. 13:34 total time.

It was pretty cool of all the riders we met up with wishing her well in the race... Iím sure that karma made its way to her!

    Zen...

Some footage from day 1, Zen. At the tail end of a 7 hour ride... would have been nice to be a little fresher on this one!

Did you guys ride the ST back to the trailhead, or just hop on the dirt road back? Zen is awesome, must do while in town, glad you guys rode it. Although I wouldn't want to do it at the end of a 30 mile epic.Yikes! while being Zen, it still take a lot outta ya or at least that's how I fell when i get back to the truck.

I think we took the ST back... it wound around on the slickrock for a while before spitting us out close to the parking lot

    Loved Zen

I rode it twice and then rode it twice the next day!!! Zen rules! It may be the best ride in SW Utah, at least near St. George. I just rode from the condo.

Yeah, I think it took two tries but I made it up the waterfall without falling back down into the wash (that drop off that edge back into the wash is bigger than it looks in that pic isn't it?) then spun out as I tried to climb up through the crevasse. I've cleaned that whole section before.... but not that day.

Enjoyed the Zen video. What was the 7 hour ride you did before Zen?

Good job Phil and steve on cleaning the upper technical section of barrel roll while passing all those people Looks like you guys got dumped out on the downhill section of GV racecourse to the bottom of zen(nothing wrong with its fast, but missed out on all the goods of barrel trail) and bypassed barrel trail. Purpose or accident?

we did ride BY some of the Gonzo stuff you guys have up there, but didn't hit any of it... first day, long ride, out of country insurance... all adds up

Not sure if we climbed Barrel Trail the right way though...

    here's the route

Looks like you rode down the GV race course and up the barrel freeride trail and back down the GV race course....right? Whatever works, but usually ride up GV racecourse and down barrels but since you were going the more Xc route riding down the racecourse is still fun

sick and stuck indoors today so I thought I'd throw together another vid. This is Broken Mesa - my wife dumped us off a ways up on the road and we rode the rest. Ended up riding back to our condo in St. George that day so it turned into quite the epic!
