    saturday ride: june12

    As promised:

A saturday ride is happening for those who are interested: its a slightly
modified version of the previous thread.

the basic loop: up the mormon trail to big mountain pass. down little
emigration canyon. over to jeremy ranch. climb back up parley's summit.
then either (a) head back along the GWT to big mountain pass or (b)
    down to the golf course.
from there, the loop is closed on a (gasp) road section.

i would describe it as a "sane-epic", or perhaps just a good long ride.
pace: not race, not leisure, somewhere in between
fitness: not lance, not couch potato. somewhere inbetween, but leaning towards lance
bike: not roadie, not DH 50 pound monster, but whatever it is, please make sure its
    in good working condition....
stuff: 4 water bottles worth of water. 5 powerpars. pump. 2 spare tubes. patch kit.
    tool thingy.
issues: crybabies, highmaintence uber-athletes, overly neurotic tech-weenies that cant
get dirty, etc. need not apply.

time: two options. i will be riding from SLC, as might some others. thus
option 1) 9 am at the shoreline trailhead across from hogle zoo. we will be leaving
    prompty by 9:15.
option 2) 11 am at the mormon trail trail head on hwy 65 (about 0.8 of a mile
south of the affleck park turn-off.) you know the one-- it has a potty. we will
    be departing by 11:15, 11:30.

    how does that sound?
if noone shows up, ill do it solo

    later,
    g

I'd say that we may be at the potty a bit before 11am. It's about an hour up Emigration at leisurly pace and another 20 min or so to the potty. So I'd suggest those who want to start from there to be there no later than 10.45am.

I'd like to take the lower part of Mormon tr. from Little Dell to the potty, so, don't rely on seeing group on the road.

yeah, that is probably closer in time ... depending on who is riding; Martians, or Earthlings

but I'd like to take the Little Mtn section of the Mo Mo too, and not the road or Mt. Dell crick bottom section

I'll be somewhere behind the Martian, in a more Earthly orbit; also
Depends on how much oatmeal and yogurt he has ett

Heidi will probably meet us at the potty. A fine rider, I'll keep her posted.

    Weather is looking favorable, cool.

I'd suggest to do this on a way back, if we have time... A bit longer road warmup may be good this time.

Too cool for Martians, but, what can you do... Do you still have that water on top of Big Mt. Pass? I feel that two 3L bag may be pushing it...

yeah, the water is still up there

but I don't know about the Red Bull

I still think the little mtn ridge would be good, nothing like dropping into Affleck at Warp Factor 9 after banging through a few grinders ... and the schedule gives us that time ....

I'm not as familiar with these trails. What kind of distance/elevation are you looking at? Percent road?

    urgent: ride postponed till sunday

    All:

my backyard mud test has indicated that the soil has not dried sufficiently
(for my liking). martian and i agreed its best to postpone till sunday. if you
still want to ride sat, go wild.

However, i have found that my backyard mud test has been accurate 89.3%
of the time. given we had 1.5 inches of rain yesterday, and its still cool and
damp today, and given the lovely consistency of utah soid (i.e., wet death muck)
and given that i dont want to wreck the trails and given that i am originally
from vancouver and have had my lifetimes fill of wet and muck, and ....

    well u get the idea.

if you want to ride sunday, same plan holds, unless it pours again tomorrow

    Saturday option for adventurers.

I am thinking on exploring loop around Stansbury Island. Should be doable according to topo maps and aerial photos. Shoot me an e-mail if interested, [email protected]
