    Moab in January??

A couple of us Southern Illinois folk are looking on useing a couple of weeks in early Jan for a possible trip out west. So the question is, how much can be ridden where at that time of year? Will we be able to avoid snow and extra cold?

    Thanks

That is really hard to predict. Could be really cold and snowy, or could only be somewhat cold and dry. There's no way to know this far in advance, but I think your chances of getting the riding weather you want are not great. Try St. George, or Arizona instead, I think.

How about Sedona, AZ? Highs for Jan are mid to upper 50s. I this snow is rare down there.

I figured Moab was/is a long shot, I've got posts in the AZ and NM forums as well. In this long far off time of 7 months away, it looks like a loop of Sedona, Phoenix, Tucson, and Las Cruces (or the other way around) may be in order.

Not necessarliy. I rode Moab this year in Jan, and it was awesome. 50's and sunny. The the general time of year does lend itself to being unpredictable here in Utah. A much less crap-shoot alternative would be the St. George / Virgin area.
