    Moab guided tours..

    Hi there!

I plan to visit Moab this May/June.

It's gonna be my 1st time in Moab, and since I'v just heard about the great trails out there (and watched videos ), I intend to have some guided tours.

From what I read on the web, a full day guided tour would cost about $100~$120.

How much $$$ would you give the guide as a tip?
    Any appropriate sum?

    Thx, Mo.

    Don't be cheap.
    10% tip is for toolbags.
20% tip is the minimum for a quality guided day.
Most Moab guide/tour companies are good. Some are excellent. The sub par are easy to spot.
You'd do very well to spend your money with Magpie.
You'd also do well to spend your money with Escape/Moab Cyclery.
Decide if you want a tour guide/chaperone or a guide who can help you improve your riding while hitting some of the best Moab trails.
Moab Mountain Bike Instruction is excellent if you want to focus on improving skills and ride some great trails.
    Lots of options for you.
Signage has greatly improved on most Moab trail systems, so if you are reasonably competent and know how to ride, a guide may not be necessary.
If you want to learn the "local" lines and quickly learn techniques specific to Moab terrain, a quality guide can be money well spent.

I gave a range. A guide earns what their service deserves.

    10% tip is lame.
    Do the homework.
    Go with a quality guide.
    Tip accordingly.

    Yo mo,

How many days are you planning to be in Moab?
And from your research what trails are you interested in riding?

Yes, you tip according to the quality of their service.
I took a ski lesson last year. The only instruction I received from my instructor was "You just need to ski more". I didn't tip him.
