    Matrimony Spring in Moab CLOSED

I posted this in the Moab Trip Planner, but I think it deserves its own thread.

Matrimony Spring, the awesome spring near the corner of Highway 128 and 191, is closed.

Apparently some government reg about miniscule contamination kicked in. The water is no longer accessible.

This sucks. I've filled up hundreds of times there.

There is city water available at Lion's Park, right across the road by the new pedestrian bridge across the river.

    Bummer

That spring will always be a part of my trips to Moab. Whether coming or going we filled up at the spring. Many, many years and memories. I also used to fill up at the spigot behind the soda fountain on the southeast corner of S. Main ST. and E. 300 South. What was the name of that business. They had great water and a little shade under the trees with picnic tables. Boy that went away about 12-15 years ago.

A water quality friend of mine that works for the Beehive state was surprised that it was shut down, based on having detectable coliform, since it has been present in the water for at least a decade. Apparently, E. Coli is a health concern, but coliform is not (and E. Coli was NOT detected). Below is a link to the UDAFs most current water quality from the spring on page 134 (its sample # 4 or 8264 and on p. 136 is the map showing the spring location sample.

It would be nice to hear the real reason the spring was shut down.
