Get Me Out of this Smoke!

Point to Point is just a few weeks away and of course I'm behind on my training but was hoping to have a good last push these last few weeks. But the Coal Hollow fire in Spanish Fork Canyon has dumped smoke all over my riding plans, where I live in Provo it is just awful outside. My friend in Spanish Fork woke up to his car covered in ash.

Where can I ride to get out of this smoke? The trail cams at Park City look like it is pretty smoky up there too, although better than Provo/Timpanogos area. Any Park City smoke reports?

What about the West side of Nebo mountain? How is Draper?

Any other smoke free areas within reasonable driving distance of Provo/SLC?

It's pretty smoky today. I haven't had a day yet where I didn't ride because of it, but it's been smoky about every day up here in PC.

Pine Ridge is higher up in Summit Park and showing 69 (good is <50) so higher is better up here.

That website shows Kimball Junction at the base of Park City reporting a 135, not good. Itís not going to be easy toget out of this smoke. I was also hoping to do the Skyline Drive this August, that ainít happening since it is on fire...

Not to late to start training.
Probably should just cut to the chase and start cramming with Camel Straights. Time to suck it up.

The winner of todays stage of the Tour of Utah smoked three cartons of unfiltered Camels before passing out.

    op,

If you want to know the air quality in the Park City environs(or anywhere else in the world), check out purpleair.com and click on Map in the menu bar.

As far as I can tell, there's smoke blanketing the whole area from SLC to Squamish.

I just went on a 17 miler with my 27 year old son today. I've been riding almost every day in this. I'm 66 and it hasn't killed me yet. Geez, c'mon.

Smokers say the same thing. In five years, maybe you'll be able to make one of those commercials where you've got a trachea tube coming out of your throat and an oxygen bottle next to you.

Yeah, maybe I should relax about all this smoke in the air, I know Mario Cipollini wouldn't sweat it...

Or stress out and inhale the same crap.
Trump needs to stop California from diverting all it's water into the Pacific ocean and then we will all be saved.

Yeah. I'm sure mountain biking with smoke in the air will result in THAT!

It's pretty smoky out today again....guess I'll go riding.

This was yesterday's ride....pretty smoky......cheating "death by pulmonary carcinoma"! I only exhaled, so I'll be fine.

I too, have been riding in PC unhindered by air quality..and I'm fat guy and breathe hard on level ground.

If I had respiratory issues, I would think twice however.

I got out today on the Timpanogos foothill trails of Orem, it was fine. The air quality reports said yellow, in the 70's, so not nearly as bad as it was last week, and I didn't notice anything. Let's hope this fire gets put out, for many reasons!

I saw a guy doing the "ultimate challenge" as part of the Tour of Utah wearing one of these ... I couldn't believe it really, it was 95 in the valley as he headed up LCC.
