Brodiegrrl and Leel's Trip to Utah and Colorado 2009

With Fall approaching and its been awhile since we visited the desert so we felt the time was right! We left Vancouver at 9:00am on Thursday Sept 24th, spent an hour and a half at the border and made it to Mountain Home Idaho at 9:30 for the night. The next day we drove to Twin Falls for breakfast, loaded up on supplies at the Win Co and headed to Salt Lake City to meet up with Gary and Martin for the drive to Gooseberry Mesa! We arrived at Gary's at 1:30, were on the road and heading to the Mesa by 2:30, had dinner at a Burrito place in Cedar City then got to the Mesa during sunset to hook up with Kevin Foote from Colorado. Kevin was returning from Interbike in Vegas with a place in their Hall of Fame for all the trail work he has done in the Grand Junction area with COPMOBA.

Rainbow Rim Trail Ride, North Rim of the Grand Canyon HIKE!

We drove by the Grand Canyon back in 2001 but didn't stop cause we didn't have time to do it justice. So this trip we made a point of spending a couple of days in the area. One day for riding, the other for hiking. Still we only got a taste. Guess we'll have to go back for a few more days of actually hiking to really see the grandeur of the place.

Great pictures. I grew up in those areas... it is amazing to be reminded of what you take for granted. Cheers.

Thunder Mountain and the Virgin River Rim Trail

After the Grand Canyon we went to two other National Parks Zion and Bryce Canyon. There are many hikes you can do in these parks but the only ride you can do is on the road to the end of Zion. Which is pretty cool.

There is a great ride on the road to Bryce. In Red Canyon - Thunder Mountain.

After we rode Thunder Mountain we went to the Virgin River Rim Trail near Navajo Lake and did a high altitude ride there.

This post is on the rides - Thunder Mountain and the Virgin River Rim Trail ( VRRT ).

Pretty easy, most of the climbing is on double track which makes for good passing, the climbs are are very good, middle ring.

The downhills are mostly singletrack on the JEM trail, fast flowy fun. couple rougher sections but nothing too gnarly.

We did it in 2 hours at a very relaxed pace. They figure the lap times will be around 1 hour.

Flowing Park trail starts at the Flowing Park Reservoir and circumnavigates Grand Mesa. It is a 12 mile trail built by volunteers of COPMOBA. Kevin Foote was an integral volunteer in the construction of this trail. While it doesn't have lot of elevation change the fact that its at >10,000 feet, over looking volcanic fields and the Grand Valey makes this a pretty cool ride. It is on the same road as the areas big ski area - Powderhorn. In the winter people also cross country ski in this area.

We missed the golden aspens by maybe a week!
