Best climb/loop route for Gold bar/Blue dot -> Portal

What's the easiest way to get up to the rim if you're riding it as a loop? What's the total distance and elevation of the route like?

Or is the best way to hike-a-bike up Portal and then take the jeep roads that parallel Gold Bar as an out-and-back? I've done this before. It wasn't bad other than a mile or so of Portal.

I did this loop a couple of weeks ago: parked at the bottom of Portal>North on Highway 279 to Highway 191>paved bike path parallel to 191 north to a tunnel which crosses under the 191 to get you on the West side of the highway to the Gemini Bridges trailhead>Gemini Bridges Rd>Gold Bar Rim 4 x 4 Rd>Gold Bar singletrack>Gold Bar Rim 4 x 4>Gold Bar Rim (formerly Blue Dot)>Portal.

28 mi., 2,800 feet of climbing. Most people just shuttle the Mag 7 ride. I was driving in solo from Green River, so a shuttle wasn't an option for me. I could see doing an out-and-back up and down Portal. If you include Blue Dot, I would out-and-back that as well. The Golden Spike jeep road is the total suck (straight up fall line; straight down fall line; repeat).

The prettier loop is to ride out Potash rd. farther and ride up Long Canyon, over to hwy 313 and North to the top of Mag 7 trails. A good healthy days ride!

28m/2800ft doesn't seem too bad. Thanks for the suggestion on skipping Golden Spike.
