HELP! What Bike Should I Get? Stats Listed... HELP!

Want a bike mostly for Urban riding around the city, jumping, stuff like that, some park and light off road, no long trips...

    Price Range 500-1000 (new)
    Height 6'4"
    Weight 205 lbs

Dont want a beginner bike. Dont want to buy a bike then buy a bunch of aftermarket parts to make it good.

came up with these.. any ideas..

    GT Rukus UF.. (anygood?)

Haro Steal 1.2 or 1.3 (dont really know if its worth the extra money for the 1.3, is it?)

Specialized. The 2011 p.2 is going to cost 940 msrp..

    Thx

I bought a used 2009 Steel Reserve 1.1 recently for $500 off Craiglist and it's tough and rides killer. I'm 5'10" about 185 and have jumped it a bunch in last couple months. The only issue, minor at that, is I've had to true the wheels, which is to be expected for something that lands they way I do...

If you go with the GT or Specialized you'll have more size choices. I recall the Steel Reserve only comes in short or long. IMO, the long, which is what I have, will be too small for someone 6'4".

    Whatever you decide, good luck!

K, if it's too small that's good to know.

Another question.. Would it be better to buy a bike w a solid front fork, than a cheap fork w a shock.. Or is a shock needed for this type of riding?

What cheap fork are you talking about? If it is the DJ3, well, a lot of people around here poo on that fork. I happen to like it quite a bit. It rides a little stiff but I kind of like that. In a weird way it's like having a ridged fork and a suspension fork at the same time.

My SR has the Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 2 with a 20mm axle. I really like having the suspension fork, plus the 20mm axle really helps stiffen up the front, big time.

I've let some of the kids at my local DJ trails ride my SR and everyone so far has loved it. They all ride 20" rigid BMX bikes.

A suspension fork is definitely not needed, but I'm old and I dig mine..

Here a couple pics on my first day out practicing on the kiddie jumps.. I've moved on to the gaps, but I'm still not very good..

For your height I'd recommend at least 22" top tube (actual center of head tube to center of seat tube measurement) but even a little longer like 22.5" if you can.

For example, the Blackmarket MOB comes in 21.5", 22", 22.25", and 22.5" top tubes.

I would suggest a front suspension. I say this because I bought a 24" BMX cruiser and the landings were torture without any front suspension. The bike is sold and now I am getting a 26" DJ. Good luck
