    Everyone's favorite answer: it depends.

Tscheezy posted a while back that the Spot will take a 2.7" tire, but there my be some issues other than width. I run a Nevegal 2.35 in the rear (actually measures about 2.4" wide) and have no problems. I've heard there could be problems wide the chain rubbing on the side knobs of wide tires when in the granny gears. I've also noticed that it looks like the Spot can take a very wide tire, but not necessarily a very tall (tread to rim distance) tire. I've never tested this out though.

So, to make a short story long, you might want to post what tire you're planning on using and letting people post that have experience with those tires.

    Hope that helped a little.

Along with posting here you can also check out Shiggy's Mnt. Bike Tire Site where he gives you actual dimensions of a surprising number of tires.

Regarding tscheezy, he had some issues with the WTB 2.5 Timberwolves, you can read about it in this thread starting around post #14 and on.

exactly.... no matter how much clearance your frame has, double or triple chainring set-up's won't go bigger than about a 2.4 before your chain starts rubbing on the tire in your granny gear / big cog. A wider BB will screw up your chainline... This is partially why DH bikes often go to 150mm spacing.

Have a 2.5 IRC Trailbear on the back off my 5-spot. Chain clearance in granny is very tight...much tighter than I would like but so far no problems.
