    Volcanic Stoke

I rode Ape Canyon/Plains of Abraham on Mt. St. Helens for the first time on Monday. The ride transitions from old growth to lunar landscape. It is a great ride. I can't wait to go back and ride it again.

I haven't been up there yet this year, I heard that IMBA did a huge work party up there last weekend and the trail is in the best shape it's been in for quite few years.

Plus the wash out on the road is weeding out a lot of hikers. That descent back down the Ape Canyon Trail is super fast and throw in a handful of hikers and it gets dicey really fast.
I only ride bikes to fill the time when I'm not skiing.

    Such a fun ride.

Doing it as a loop and coming down smith canyon is the shizzle.

    True true!
I don't reccomend trying to cut across the south side of the mountain though
There is a trail on the map that does this...I took it...it sucked balls!!
Had to hike in and out of washed out canyons. Ended up hiking over the lahar back
to the edge of the woods...hiking up into the woods looking for the trail
Stupid ride turned in to a 6-7 hour epic.

Woo, isn't the smith canyon all pumice rock...extra loose and fun?

I love those runs. You can almost get the bike to carve like a set of skiis back and forth.
