Does somebody know if is possible to buy the new thru-axle rear end to replace on a 2011 frame?

Iirc, DT said they are backwards compatible and that he'd make them affordable for existing owners. I'd like to know what the cost will be as well.

Per Greg at Turner when asked:
"The cost for a “raw” 2012 rear is $400.00 and $450.00 for an anodized rear. This will come with an axle and hanger."

Going for the thru-axle I reckon is the best way to further increase the (already quite good) rear end stiffness although I would preferred the X12 system which is nicer and more radical solution . I already use a thru axle 10mm DT which is better than the QR but the the revised rear end is an another concept. Don’t know also the increase of weight, but on this kind of bike is not a big issue.

This requires a hub change to 142 also? I've been out of the loop for quite awhile. Looking at getting a 2012 Sultan.

Yes. The 2012 requires a 142 rear hub.
The 2011 frame takes a standard qr.
