Shimano XT 760 with Race Face rings sucks

Has anyone put Race Face rings on their Shimano crankset and had bad results? I think the mix is not good.

We have run that combo for years (always with Sram chains) and the results have been excellent. We can get about 8 months of heavy use out of the rings before the chain starts hanging up. Blackspire rings have also been great. The stock Shimano rings are ok but seem to wear fast.

    Obviously ymmv.

I have XT with new Race Face Deus team rings on my Spot. Yes I am having some issues. They squeek constantly. But - I built them with alu - Token - chain bolts - not the standard XT alloy ones or Race Face issue. Tonight - after Frosty gets a clean - I'll pull the rings off, check BB and crank bolt torque, then put rings back on with some blue loctite using the original Shimano alloy bolts.

But apart from the noise, the combo is shifting well. I prefer Dura Ace/XTR 7701 chains with SRAM Powerlink (way better value than SRAM alternatives in Australia - even considering mail order from USA).

repeat after me... no blue loctite on the alloy ring bolts. SAY IT! a little dab of grease or some anti sieze/ti prep (same thing) works very well. with loctite ya may end up breakin the alloy bolts off inside the alloy nuts the 1st time ya go to remove them.

Never had a problem with the combination. XT rings on XT cranks, now that is a different story.

Good luck for a long time with xt cranks and rf or shimano rings. Opp of TS, I seem to get a bit longer life out of the shimmy rings, provided I buy xt, not lx, which look similar, but lack any hard anodizing. The life of both brands may have as much to do with how much I'm riding and how much mud I run into than anything else.

Maybe you got the middle ring on backwards?
    Whining is not a strategy.

Put the rings on wrong :)

Pulled 'em apart and lined up the notch deal. We shall see if the weather breaks. Moved to the Gorge in the winter; what was I thinking
