Q's: dw-Spot (Med) Rear shock switch?

A friend of mine owns a Medium dw-5.Spot (Medium) with a RP23 (7.5" X 2") original rear shock. He wants to change it to a Fox DHX 5.0 -- 7.875" X 2.5" which came from his old 08 RFX.

    1) Will this fit the 09 dw-Spot?
    2) What ride characteristics would he experience?
    3) What are the consequences, if any, should he change the rear shock to the DHX-5.0?

    Any insights would be grateful..

    Thanks homers.....

First of all, if the shock is in fact off of a 08 RFX it's 7.875x2.25, which is a good thing for your experiment.

Assuming that the shock mounts to the frame without creating interference or contact, there shouldn't be contact anywhere along the shock stroke because bottom out length of the shock is larger than stock (5.625in > 5.5in).

As far as suspension performance or the ride that's all up in the air. The bottom bracket will be higher (for given static sag) and the angles steeper. The suspension should net about 160mm of travel.

If you could tune bottom out protection on the shock adequately, you could in principle run a lot more sag and if DW link is indeed insensitive to sag amount achieve an extremely plush ride. I doubt that this would really work (at least without some custom tuning of the shock to make it ramp up enough).

Nope, and also I think that the shock that you are referring to is a 7.875X2.25, which also won't fit

If the DHX5.0 is a 7.5X2 size, then he will probably love it.
