I spent a couple days in Homer last summer. Gorgeous town.

Actually even met Jewel's (the pop singer) dad on the beach during a horse ride.

I'm probably closer to Homer than the Anchorage Turner Mafia is (though it would be a long swim for me. I have sea kayaked from Kodiak to Homer though...).

    Bob trailers:

Why do you suppose they come with dry bags?

I spent 5 weeks there in the summer of '83 as a "spit rat" spending 12 hours of each day enjoying the smell of processed fish parts...mmmm yum! Smokey would have enjoyed the aroma the other 12 hours of the day

Yeah I get a chuckle every time I read about the Turner clan being referred to as Homers. We refer to Homer, Alaska residents as "Homerroids" in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way, and I'm always thinking of the board members in that same vein.

Like ts says, "Let your freak flag fly!" I'm a Homerroid and I'm proud.

North Pole, Alaska I believe. (Yes there really is such a place) It's about twenty miles south of Fairbanks.

Homer's latest claim to fame is it's the home for Daniel Coyle, author of the newest Lance Armstrong book, said to be one of the best cycling books ever written. Dan moved his family to Girona, Spain to spend a year following him for this project. I attended a book signing and slide show he had last night in Anchorage, and it was really entertaining stuff. I'm really looking forward to diving into "Lance Armstrong's War."
