Who Else Really Wants a Top Fuel?

They look awesome. I rode a ABP Fuel EX and it was pure super duper awesomeness! I can't wait to ride (or own) a ABP Top Fuel. Geometry and components look good. Price, although expensive is still reasonable.

Anyone else drooling over them? I want one!

I've got one with my name on it somewhere, but it still may be in pieces or raw materials waiting to be made at this point. I think the window for possible delivery opens sometime in November, but the last time I checked they were suggesting it is more likely to be toward the end of the year.

    Ohhh yeah...

They are amazing looking. Thinking of picking up a 9.8, however the LBS told me they wouldn't come in until Feb 09. That's in Canada. Anyone know if that's accurate? Also, anyone know the weight of the 9.8?

    Want ???!!!??? Heck yeah !!!

Can I afford one ????......not really

Still riding an old Fuel 90 ....perhaps a frame failure might result in replacement with a TopFuel frame ??? That'd be more than ok by me...

I work at a Trek dealer. Top Fuel 8's and 9.8's (and probably 9.9's too) are to be available somewhere around Feb. 23 in the US.
With a carbon frame, 1500-1600 gram wheelset and a Sid, I would guess a 9.8 would certainly be less than 26lbs, probably 24-25 considering the 9.9 is 21-20lbs (ish) stock.

I was told end of the year on a 9.9. I'm not sure my limited permission (from the wife) is going to last until February.

Looks like 9.8 can easily be brought down to 22-23 range... http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech/2008...rek_top_fuel08 The article says "as pictured" which looks like that includes the stock wheels/tires, the bike weighed 23.69lbs.

FYI...according to my Trek rep. all the carbon bikes with XXX carbon wheels will have Race X Lite wheels instead at first. The costs will reflect this change. The reason is that there is to much demand for the Top Fuels etc for them to make their wheel quota.

I got lucky and was able to hop on a Top Fuel in a parking lot.
I still want one. I'm 6' 1" - 6' 2" and I rode an XL which felt okay, although I was on it for so little it is hard to say. It looks like an XL would be the right size. What do you think?

Also, they are still listing them for Feb. 09, but apparently some people are already getting them.

I've already started buying parts for a bike I don't own yet...

    Avid Elixir CR's
    Avid Matchmaker
    Sram X.O trigger shifters
    Sram X.O RD
    Sram 991 chain
    Sram 990 11-32 cassette
Truvativ Stylo WC 15mm riser bar (I don't think I'll like the narrow bars that come stock)

    and I also plan on...
    XTR pedals (already own)
    140mm rear rotor
    Ergon GX grips w/barends
Maxxis tires, haven't decided which ones
DT Swiss XM 180 shock and remote (maybe)

I think that's it. It should be nice, if I can get a hold of a 9.8.

Just ordered new 9.9 ssl last week...

I doubt that I'll change anything right off the bat. I may go to some x-0 grip shifters and x-0 r. derailleur, but will probably stay with the xtr stuff for a bit.

    Waiting, waiting, waiting...

    I'm in

Just wandering around at the Trek site for some Bonty Race Lite MTB stickers and ran across the new bikes, WOW. They have stepped it up a few notches in their latest line up. I think that the Remedy may be a replacement for my 05 Heckler when I can swing it.
Too many bikes, and just enough time to ride them.

Some parts came in today (super duper excited.) Not everything in the 1st pic is for the Top Fuel. 2nd pic is stuff for the TF.

2nd Christmas for you. Friken' sweet.

I've got a 9.8 on order and will probably switch the wheelset to XTR. I'm considering changing the crank to XTR or the FSA carbon 2X9 like the 9.9. Wondering if that's the way to go. Only looking at the weight savings at the moment.

    Any comments?

    Thanks,

the 2x9 is pretty trick... most race courses don't require 22's (or race riders for that matter)

    Check it out

    http://www.dirtragmag.com/blogarific...ek-top-fuel-98

    18.5 is 23.5lbs w/o pedals.

I cannot wait. Trek still says late February, but they are popping up!

we've got an 18.5" top fuel 9.8 in stock at the shop I work at. It is a pretty amazing bike and looks very well thought out. I especially like that they redesigned the abp skewer to work with stationary trainers, nice little touch. We only have a basic hook scale in our shop, but the bike with some heavy test ride pedals weighs just unnder 24lbs. I forget what our price is (a little under 5k), but it seems very reasonable for the spec. Not my kinda bike but still pretty awesome nonetheless.

    Wow, pretty bike.
I would in a heart beat but can't go back to kids wheels. If the swingarm would fit 650b.....
My ole Trek TopFuel Team Issue 2005 won't ethier.
I beleive this bike would blow the doors off of competitor Scott Spark in every way except performance as a 650b wheeled bike. Ultimately, wheels make a huge difference. A small one, per tire revolution...and then well, do the math.

For people that are waiting to get them from normal stock at your local shop. Good luck to you. Trek is fullfilling the back ordered bikes first. So the few that are popping up here and there were ordered months ago...but a lot of shops have back ordered them for themselves, so your local shop just might have one for you to pick up! Sorry to burst your bubble. They are pretty BAMF!!! I would soo love to have one if I had that kinda spare $ to drop on another bike!

X02 is right - there are a few showing up on occasion on Trek's dealer site, but in extremely limited quantities because of the back order situation.

The availability should be higher late February to late March, and for people like me who will employee purchase, we have to wait until back orders are taken care of to order.

Ya...I am waiting on my EP one as well. I don't want to wait but the money i will save will be enough to pay for the Fox fork I am putting on it. NO SID!

It may be a little better the earlier models in terms of stiffness but you cannot match the overall feel of a Fox fork...no comparison.

My Top Fuel 9.8 is finally here!!!

My Trek Top Fuel 9.8 finally came in. I am so excited. Here are my specs:

Top Fuel 9.8 frame in size 17.5
Sram XO triggers and rear derailleur
Shimano XTR front derailleur, crankset, cassette 11-32
SID Race fork upgraded to blackbox damper and pushloc/adjustable compression damping
    Easton monkeylite sl handlebar
Avid Elixir CR brakes with 160/140 rotors
    Time ATAC titanium pedals
    Avid Matchmaker
Everything else is stock for now.

I am tempted to try ZTR Race 7000 wheels for races.

Total weight = 23.5 pounds but I think the shop scale is not calibrated very well (may actually be slightly lighter). They had my stock Trek Madone 6.9 at something stupid like 16.3 pounds but it's right near the legal limit. I'll try to post a picture when I get the bike back.
