2016 Fuel EX parts on a 2017 Fuel EX frameset?
It's a long story which I'm happy to share but I'll cut to the chase:

As the owner of a 2016 Fuel EX 29 9.9 size 18.5 I'd like to move to a 2017 Fuel EX 29 in size 17.5 as it will better fit my size and riding. I'm debating purchasing a 2017 as a frameset and then selling off the 2016 frameset -- the question is: Will everything port over? I don't mind re-cabling but specifically I'm thinking of things like bottom bracket, chainline, and other minor things that I might be missing.

I'm assuming I'll need a new headset and Bontrager Line stem for Knock Block to work, but perhaps there are other headset related issues that I'm overlooking?

Anyone interested in purchasing a like new 2016 Fuel EX 29 9.9 frameset in 18.5?

Your 120 mm fork is going to be a bit on the short side for the new version, which is specced at 130 mm.

The 2017 is boost hub spacing also.

Ignore my last post, I didn't realize the 2016 was boost spacing also.

Oops, forgot to mention that. I've already converted the 2016 to 130mm by replacing the air shaft. In fact the first thing I'd likely do to the 2017 would be to go to 140mm on the Fox 34 and have 140F/130R. Thanks for the catch. Anything else?

Per the Specs. Everything should cross over. Same BB's in both bikes per Trek specs.

Too bad your frame is a 18.5" would be a nice build for me if it was a 19.5"

    but everything should work

Also does anyone know the stock stem length for the 2017 Fuel EX 29, 17.5 and 18.5?

    My EX 27.5+ 17.5" came with a 50mm stem.

Make sure you test the 2017 before you buy, many are saying the 2016 is a better bike!!

    Depends on your goals.
2016 is better if you plan to race some XC but still want a fun trail bike
2017 is better at going DH and not so XC racing friendly.

    I rode a buddies 2017 P1 Fuel 29er.
100% better over the 2017 Alum bikes.
His weighed in at 29lbs which was the same weight as my 2016 Fuel EX9 29er
But his pedaled night and day better than the 2017 Fuel EX8 29er I rode.

^^^ Also, and much to my surprise, driverbob (our fearless moderator) noted that he is setting PRs on his 17 EX, after coming off a 16 EX, I think.

Yup, I keep convincing myself to keep the 16 every time I ride it! I have it set up with a 130mm fork air spring and low mino so it's closer to 17 geometry. It's just about perfect for my riding. Pedals like an XC bike and handles like a trail bike.

This is my idea of a trail bike, 2016 Fuel EX 9.9 with Fox 34 at 130mm, short 35mm stem with wide 780mm Enve bar. The best part my new 38mm ex. Light Bicycle carbon 27.5+ rims with Project 321 hubs, Sapim CX Ray spokes and 2.8 Bonty Chup tires. Bike still only 24.4 lbs and now a real trail slayer!!
