    2008 Fuel EX9 buildup on a budget

I am posting this buildup thread as a tribute to Trek for honoring the warranty on a 10 year old Klein that broke and left me stranded.

My Pearl White/Metallic Black EX9 shipped out this morning along with a brandy new Fox Float RP23. The fact that i am a full time student and only have a slight income will inevitably turn this into a winter build.

My first large purchase hopefully was an frugal one. The seller stated it is 140mm, which would make me think it is a new takeoff and a great deal at $200 shipped.

I will be using my old 960 XTR RD,

    I still need:

    Handle bars
    stem
    bar ends
    headset
    wheels
    cassette
    chain
    clipless

I will update as i get parts, pics to follow

BTW, you could get a Forge Sawback 5xx for $300ish , rob it for parts and sell frame/fork and remaining parts.... maybe get you back on the trail for $200ish.

Your 08 EX9 frame doesn't use the new E2 fork/headset system. The 09 EX9.8 & EX9.9 carbon frames have that. You can use a normal headset. Here' a link to my recent build up. If you look carefully you can see the Chris King normal type headset:

Frame was free ( warranty replacement). I can also guide you through the build so you dont buy the wrong parts.
