    Lots of NEW riders

On July 25, 2018 kids from Boys and Girls Clubs from Oneida, Tn; Cleveland,TN; and Montgomery,AL met at Dalton,GA for a day of mtn bike riding. The kids loved the experience. They began the day riding the trails that are on-site at the Dalton club, then later rode the local trail system at Raisin Woods.

If you live close to a Boys and Girls Club that has some on-site property not currently being used for anything, perhaps you could speak with them about building a trail. Clubs in other parts of Tn and Ga have had great success with this. The trail does not have to be very long....and several of the Clubs also have pump tracks. Combine this with some donated, gently used mtn bikes and maybe some dedicated volunteers from a mtn bike club and the result can be lots of young riders with smiling faces.

Maybe get a corporation or a foundation that is interested in creating healthy lifestyles involved as a partner and it could get even better.

I like the sounds of that. The trails at the Dalton club were just completed recently weren't they?

I got the impression that the trails have been there a few years but they have recently expanded one part and also added some skinnies and a teeter-totter.

I will be talking with our local BGClub to also expand and add some technical features...as well as adding some bike racks and other amenities.

The coolest part was watching the kids from diverse areas come together and just enjoy the day riding and laughing and making some new friends with the common bond of simply enjoying a bike ride.

If our local mtn bike club gets permission from the BGClub to expand their current on-site trail, we will have their kids involved with that expansion. Last year, we added about 200 ft of bench cut trail to a slope they have there...the kids did most of the labor and they enjoyed it.

Another ongoing project we have now is teaching them basic bike maintenance/trail side repair.....plus they have to check the bikes before each ride. Trying to teach them some responsibility involved with bikes....so they don't just ride the bike and throw it down when it is time for them to leave when their parents arrive.
