    IMBA Visits NYC

Here's some pix from the IMBA visit and some stats:

Thanks to Iron Horse Bikes for paying for the food to feed the volunteers and to Jamie B. for picking up and delivering the food.

I'm too wasted for a complete re-cap but here are the approximate statistics:

Thursday and Friday: (work with NYC Parks staff and Green Apple Corps)
600 feet of new trails built and finished
250 feet of old "fall line" trail planted and restored
7 Rolling Grade Dips installed for erosion control on exisiting trails
1/4 acre of invasive garlic mustard removed
14 hours of training and supervision by three trail professionals
    300 volunteer hours donated

Saturday and Sunday: (work with mountain bikers)
450 feet of new trail built (but not finsihed yet).
150 feet of existing trail modified to include technical trail features (moguls and berms)
14 hours of training and supervision by three trail professionals
    260 volunteer hours donated

    Totals:
1,050 feet of new trail built
250 feet of abandoned trails restored
7 Rolling Grade Dips installed for erosion control on exisiting trails
1/4 acre of invasive garlic mustard removed
150 feet of existing trails modified to include technical trail features
28 hours of training and supervision by three trail professionals
$300.00 of Food and Drink to feed the volunteers
600 volunteer hours donated at $35.00* per hour equals $21,000.00 worth of labor towards the project.

Not bad for only four days of work huh?

*$35.00 per hour labor is the value of volunteer labor that includes hourly wage and benefits as well as workmans comp. (only used for comparison purposes)

The Green Apple Corps worked with us on Thursday and Friday and they were an incredible work force who enjoyed working on our trails. I talked them into coming back for a full week's worth of work...after they return from New Orleans where they will be helping rebuild from hurricane Katrina.

PS Thanks to Nate and Rachel from IMBA for staying late on Sunday to help finish...we were hoping the volunteers would tire themselves out so we could go home.

The IMBA Seminar was held at the NYC Hall of Science near the old world's fair. We had about 80 people in the auditorium on Thursday and Friday. Then we headed out to Cunningham Park to build and restore trail.

On Saturday and Sunday we had about 40 mountain bikers show up for the seminar and trail building, here are some pix from the weekend.
