    shimano vs sram

can shimano FD or RD match with sram RD or FD or vise versa?
can the shimano dual lever use with older version of shimano RD or FD?
what the purpose of the shimano long and short cage for RD?

All Shimano sifters will work with all Shimano deraillers, given the correct chain and cassette.

Pure SRAM (The "X" stuff, or old ESP) setups use a different (arguably better) cable pull so are not compatible with shimano.

However, SRAM also makes Shimano pull stuff, generally labled "Attack" or "Rocket" or some other dam thing. These are NOT compatible with "real" SRAM stuff.

All Front Deraillers/Shifters work the same, regardless of brand.
