    Repairing a Maxle Ultimate Thru Axle?

    I have two Maxle Ultimate thru axles - one is too long, the other is missing the lever. I want to move the lever/cam to the one that fits. Anyone know how to remove the either the lever or the entire lever/cam assembly? I've searched YouTube and found nothing.

    This is the one I'm working with...

    I've never taken one apart, but would start by checking if there's an allen head inside the axle body (long wrench though the threaded end). If not I would try the cap under the QR part. It looks like they have wrench flats.

    Start with the broken one, and go easy. It could be LH thread, loctite, something else...

    Thanks Black Squirrel... this one doesn't have that allen bolt. But, I did figure it out - holding the axle body in a vice (after wrapping the axle in electrical tape), I turned the thin 14mm nut that's part of the cam/lever assembly. And yeah - it was loc'ed tite. But, they both broke free and I got the good lever on the right axle (and did use red Loctite). Not sure it was worth $28 (cost of a new axle), but it was cool to solve it.

    Yeah some of those axles are expensive. I have a dt in front and replacement cost is like $50. I'll replace it with an allen head one of I ever need to, the qr feature isn't really that important to me.
