    Newbie fork/headset removal

I just bought an old beater bike to use a s a commuter up at school and want it to be drab looking, problem is my bike is orange. I decided to strip it all off (good learning experience for a beginner) and paint it myself. I got to here, and now I'm not quite sure what to do. Any tips on how to get the fork/headset out would be appreciated

    old threaded headset...

Just unscrew the nut with a wrench and all the headset bits should fall right out except for the headset cups which are pressed into the frame. To remove them, you've got 3 choices: 1) take the frame to the LBS and have the wrench get em out, 2) buy yourself a Park headset cup remover for $30 and do it yourself or 3) use a hammer and long stemmed flathead screwdriver and slowly tap out the cups being careful not to get one side out further to avoid ovalizing the headtube.

Personnally, I was in the same boat as you: newbie rider who wanted to overhaul his bike and I did it all with simple tools my pops had. Since then it's been 14 years and several bike tools later and I no longer take my bike to the LBS to get work done. # 3 works well, just go slowly.
