    Marzocchi extension 80 to 100

Ive got an 02 Marzocchi MXC air suspension fork, and i want to convert it from the 80mm to 100mm travel.
As it was explained to me, basically this is just swapping out the negative springs that are there for smaller ones that will afford the stanchions to extend further.
How complex an operation is this? (it sounds simple enough). Do i HAVE to buy new neg. springs? or can i cut the existing ones down to allow the stanchions to extend further? (i mean what do the neg. springs do aside from softening the rebound of the stanchion?)

    Thanks.

The springs are about $5 each. You need two of them.
