    bottom bracket taps...

Does anyone know a source for bottom bracket size taps that might be a bit more affordable than the VAR/Park offerings, specifically in Italian thread (36mm x 24tpi). I'm just looking for something to chase out good threads in older Italian frames, so I really only need one tap. It doesn't have to be super-high quality.

And please, spare me the "it's a job for your LBS", 'cause it isn't.

    Thanks much in advance.

    Cyclus Tools

    hi

I have a set of Cyclus tools. I purchased them this summer. I bought the Ital, English, BB face and 1 & 1 1/8 headset facing tools. it was expensive but the cost was less than one park tap tool. The tools are good quality, overbuilt and quite hefty. Old school European manufacturer, not inexpensive chinese.

The only problem is shipping. The items were quite heavy and in order to get insurance the shipment must go priority which was alot. The tools are cheaper sent to the US than purchased in europe since no VAT is paid. The items also sneaked thru US customs so no tariff were paid. Next spring there might be a US distributer but the price will not be near where they are now with tarriffs and distributer markups.

I bought thru this ebayer's website.

    Thanks; that's good to know...

Yeah, I've been eyeing that set as my last resort. Good to hear that they are well made. I'm just trying to find a single tap without the handles; I just need to chase out some threads occasionally.

    Thanks.

yes I thought about just buying the taps myself but the pricing was crazy. The whole tool was only $4 more with shorter lead time. Shipping would be alot cheaper though.
