Where To Ride in San Antonio

    Morning,

I'm coming down to San Antonio to spend a week or so and bringing my bike along.

where can I find some riding areas?

I'm headed out tomorrow afternoon and may not be able to check in after that but should be able to check my email at some point at [email protected]

not looking for anything too wild or extreme, sort of a noob here ;-)

    TIA, Mac

It depends on what part of town you are in or how far you want to go. Two city parks have good trails, McAllister (north) and OP Schnabel (west/northwest). Just outside of town in Helotes (only about 5 miles from OP Schnabel) is Government Canyon State Natural Area which is brand new and has lots of trails (only open Friday to Monday) . http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/f...rnment_canyon/
Also there is Hill Country State Natural Area about 45 minutes west of town. Tons of trails and a really nice drive (about 45 minutes) through the Texas hill country (ps. stop at El Chapparal on your way back for a beer and some great mexican food...its on your right side just as you're heading back into Helotes). http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/f.../hill_country/

You can get also see some info on these at austinbike.com

    Hope you enjoy our city.

You should come out for the Thursday Bike World ride through downtown. Bring some $$, the new guy buys beer.
