Wow, extremely nice bike! That is a terrible shame. I assume your friend checked around at pawn shops and watched Ebay. A bike that like is pretty unique and doesn't just come along everyday.

The first time I went looking for a serial number on my similar Scalpel I was surprised that the serial number is nothing more than a sticker that can be easily removed and replaced without damaging the frame. (if it exists elsewhere I could not find it.) I wonder if that makes these a target. If so I imagine it would be more likely to be pawned. Probably a long shot but checking area pawn shops might be a slightly better than normal idea.

FOUND! Still don't know what he had to do to recover it, just know that the guy asked for the money in order to give it back. That makes me think that the thief was maybe a cyclist, as they published the bike on cycling groups. Fortunately this baby is back home.

    Thank you all guys.

What a turd ... I'd just give it back. Who'd really take the money? I'd feel like a jerk ... Unless he's the thief.

I would get my bike back and extract a pound of flesh.
Texas law alllows you to shoot someone stealing from you if you don't think your property is recoverable.
I guarantee the bike was close if he paid the thief for it.
