    Save Our Trails!

Fellow MTBers, we need your help.

The City of Mission, Texas is taking away a large portion of our singletrack trails. These trails were developed by The Mission Trails Club (http://www.missiontrails.org/) on city park land, with permission and assistance from the Parks and Rec department.

These trails are used by mountain bikers, trail-runners, hikers, nature observers, and anyone else who enjoys the diverse flora and fauna South Texas has to offer.

These trails are the only ones we have and the City is leasing them to a private skeet shooting club. Within the next few months the trails will be fenced off to prevent access and stunt further growth of our trails.

Please sign our petition http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mtc/ We need all the help we can get as the city has already approved and signed this lease prior to informing anyone.

    thank you.

Thank you! Please spread the word. These are the only accessible, approved trails in our entire region.

Check the discourse his other thread took on this. Still zero evidence and he only heard of something happening, not a single thing in writing.

Evidence? I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're wanting. I understand you don't want to sign the online petition, or you think they're worthless but I don't see why you feel it necessary to attempt to dissuade people. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a lot of press coverage about this. We've been spreading the word at the trails, on facebook, through emails, in person, at the bike shops. Just thought we could garner more support from other forums. There's supposed to be a story on a local channel and next Saturday there will be a press conference at the trails as well with more news outlets attending.

MISSION — It only took a few weeks for Melinda Herradura to fall in love with her new hobby.
Joining her husband, Aldrin, who began biking a year ago, Herradura said she was upset to hear a portion of the Mission Nature Park and Trail would be leased by the city to a local skeet club.
“I just got my bike and then I found out,” the 34-year-old Edinburg resident said. “We feel really bad.”
Months ago, city leaders approved leasing out the property to the Mission Skeet and Trap Club for the next 25 years for $1 per year.
