    San Antonio Visit

    Greetings, Texas MTBers.

I'll be down San Antonio way next Monday to visit family. Priority will be spending quality time with the old man, but as an avid mountain biker, I'd love to spend a day or two on Texas trails, especially since everything here is still mud and snow.

Traveling light, so bike and gear will have to stay behind. I might be able to demo a ride, or perhaps a Good Samaritan would be willing to show an out-of-towner some local dirt on a loaner.

Either way, tips and expertise would be appreciated. My parents live near 1604 and Bandera, and I also expect to spend some time with my brother in far NW Austin.

    Cheers,

    HDP

The San Antonio Wheelmen club might be of help and the Austin Ridge Riders have regular rides.

I do not know what their current inventories are. But, Ride Away Bicycles behind REI in Huebner Oaks and Bike World downtown used to rent mountain bikes. And of course, you are in a prime location. Not to far from the fast singletrack around OP Schnabel and off of the Leon Creek Greenway nor too far from the rocky climbs of Government Canyon. And if those do not interest you, arguably the best singletrack in the US is only 30 or so miles away in Comfort.

Lake Georgetown is an IMBA epic. I have a loaner. How many days will you be here?
I'm in Austin. Canyon Lake is cool too.
Keep trying to do the awesomest thing you've ever done.

    Thanks for the tips, all.

I'll give Ride Away a ring tomorrow. Even if they only have a beater, it'd be nice to hit the dirt. I'm so tired of riding roads (although XC skiing has been awesome this winter).

If you happened to be in Austin this weekend (and ride a large) I could give you a greenbelt tour and bring a bike for you. Head out of town on business on Monday for most of the week.

Thanks for the offer, AB. I won't be in Texas until very late Monday. But maybe the following weekend if you're back in town?

Yes, I should be in town that weekend. Depending on Work I might even be able to ride on Friday.

Bumping again as I will be in the San Antonio area for two weeks starting April 24. Wasn't able to meet up with anyone last year but should have more time this year.

Have tentative plans to bike with someone in Austin on April 28, but one or two more days in the saddle would be great to maintain what little base I've accumulated.

Most of my days will be in NW San Antonio (Leon Springs area), but might be able to get away with notice. Feel free to reply here or PM.

Thanks so much and good dirt!
