We did two laps on the Orange Trail. Prob should have given one of the others a try. First time there. Maybe next time we'll get in some others. Not saying it was bad. My only Mtb riding has been The anthills. Guess I think The Anthills to be more technical in comparison.

I know this is late but... I've seen you fly by me at the anthills! I can spot that orange niner from a distance. I'll have to remember to say hi next time.

I haven't encountered much that can top the anthills in our area.

From those who have biked Huntsville, is it enjoyable over all? I thought it might be fun to do a camp/bike one weekend....and thoughts for or warnings against this?

I find Huntsville to be extremely boring. There are no drop-offs, whoop-ti-do's, berms, jumps, g-outs, nothing. You go up the hill then you go down the hill. I do recommend the trail for those who are training for races as the hills are the steepest and longest in the Houston area and there's plenty of sand to keep your muscles burning. If you're looking for a fun trail I recommend the Anthills, Jack Brooks, Lake Bryan's East trail, Bluff Creek Ranch, or most anything in Austin.

Agreed!! And, I'm riding 1x9 and ss these days. Huntsville is not conducive to that type of riding!! And, really, at least in my view, nothing technical at all!! For a variety of reasons - one being that I am three minutes from t]dropping in - I love the Anthills!!

The most tech thing at Huntsville is dodging 95 year old runners!! Every rider in Houston should ride it at least once.

I find the "race loop" at Huntsville to be very fun and challenging. I doubt it's marked on any of the park's trail maps, you'd need to tag along with someone familiar with its layout. I believe the BikeLane crew still meets there every other Sunday morning for a ride.
The race loop incorporates all of the best singletrack with only a couple short sections of jeeproad. There is also a project in the works to add 20+ more miles to the trail system in the surrounding National Forest. It's been marked and tagged, but will be another year or two before it's finished. If you're on I-45 just north of the park, you will see a "peak" there that's around 400 feet above sea level, the park itself is mostly around 100 I think. The new trails will climb up and around that area, should be way cool when done.
