    more tx trails

As an expatriated Texan who returns on occasion, it has occured to me that in a state with so little public access, maybe txdot would allow some trails to be built along highway rows. Texas hillcountry has some awesome terraine and enough right of way room to build some killer xc / all mountain trails. Riding the road is a deathwish, but bwtn ashpalft and barbed wire is some sweet stuff, especially out south of Medina to Vanderpool. The Hill County south to mex has great potential. Hell, town to town epics! I think it could work.

Thank goodness for state parks or there would be nothing! Relatively speaking...

I think about that every time I'm driving down the highway.

I don't think TXdot would "allow" it but probably no one would stop you from making your own trails. I see 4 wheeler trails along the side of FM roads all the time in east TX.

I don't know if it would work, but it would be great to have more stuff to access.

In snow states like Michigan, those strips along the sides of the road are often snowmobile ROW's.
