    Hammerhead Bikes

Looking like we may be moving to Austin this Winter. Had a couple people recommend Hammerhead Bikes as a great LBS
Checked out their site & seems a bit outdated, or maybe not updated recently is a better way to say it.
Anyone have the 411 on them?

    Thanks

Last I heard the shop was for sale. Too bad, Cody and the guys really knew the austin bike culture and really did a lot of things outside of the shop to support biking in Austin.

But don't worry, there are tons of good shops in Austin. That includes Bicycle Sport Shop - Bike sales, service and rentals. Austin, Texas . Even though they are a big shop, they actually really focused on customer service and carry lots of product and top brands.

When you get here drop me a line and I'll show you some of the trails.

BSS Rentals? I thought paying to ride a shop's bike pissed you off to hypertension? I am quite surprised to see you plugging them after the unmitigated outrage you experienced elsewhere.

OP - block off the entire day!

Bought a few things from them plus the used to be very active on MTBR. My understanding was they made some $ in the tech industry and opened hammerhead after based on their passion for bikes.

Sounds like they have had enough running a retail business which is not always fun even when profitable.

HH sold from the original owner to Cody about 3 years ago fwiw...it was Charles that you are referring to, although I don't know if he did/didn't make $ form the tech industry, he does work in it.

Cody is with True Fab bikes out of Austin and has been building bikes for a long while.

String, you ever make it to austintown?

Charles was who I was thinking of. Did not know he sold the shop but then again it's been a while.

I make it as far as Rockyhill ranch & Lagrange on a regular basis (Wife's grandparents & cousins live between La grange & Basdrop). I will actually be at Rocky Hill weekend after next for the 24 hrs of Rocky Hill. I don't make it all the way to Austin very often. It's been a few years.

Any ideas about what's going on with that?

Nobody around there is owning up to what you heard.

    A pm would be nice.

    Thanks.

    That certainly covers it.

It's Amazing what one can miss when they're not logging in to the right forum and the folks 'on the ground' aren't talking about it.

    Oh well.

Wish All the Best for Cody & Co.!

I certainly enjoy doing business with HH.

    WTF?

I rent bikes all around the world. I have never had a problem with that and I have rented several from BSS, always great service.

If you actually bothered to read that other thread you would see that:

    A. I rented three different bikes from a shop, each of which I intended to buy from that shop
    B. The shop owner called me out as getting free loaners and essentially said "just buy a bike from me you cheapskate"
    C. I reminded him that I actually paid him for all of the demos
    D. Pretty sure he apologized for the comments

That being said, hammerhead did the best job of all shops in demos, they hooked me up with someone who let me ride their bike and even spent an hour setting it up for me. That is why I bought from them at the time. Customer service goes a long way. Insulting customers does not.

Haven't ridden the Pivot...we recently received a few Sultans, so will be riding those soon.

    You riding one of those?
