GHORBA Group Ride at Double Lake!

As many of you know Double Lake now has two great singletrack loops for a total of nearly 20 miles so we now have an epic trail in our back yard! Minor climbs, fast downhills, a few roots, plus miles and miles of trail are beckoning you to come ride. Join us on Sunday July 31st at 8:00am and we'll give you a tour of either the old loop, the new loop, or both. We're also inviting our good friends from the Northwest Cycling Club to join us, just remember to bring your mountain bike, not your road bike!

Trail Steward Jim Mackey and his crew have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the new trail such as installing signs with maps at many intersections so as to make it easier to navigate. A huge thanks to Jim and his workers for all the hard work they've done!

As always we will have group rides for everyone no matter what your skill or endurance level. Double Lake Recreation Area is located in Coldspring, TX just an hour northeast of Houston. Bring $6 for entrance to the park.

A map to Double Lake is here:

A trail map can be found here:

All GHORBA group rides are open to all riders and not just GHORBA members. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and adult. All riders must have a helmet and a bike.

If you park at the location on the map you'll find us. We will have a canopy set up with a few tables plus water, gatorade, and snacks. Last time we rode Double Lake we had 50 riders attend and I expect at least that many this Sunday. Ask anyone thee and they can point us out.

I was out there again this past weekend. I really enjoy DL and love the fact that the trails are almost always empty. The original post indicates two loops, but really there are a myriad of loops you can make because the trails intersect to nicely and the new signage is great.

Make sure you hit the Trail of Woe both ways... down is obviously more fun and very fast.
