Hyper text trail names are linked to facebook/secondary web site page.
..........................................Last Reported Trail Condition

Going to lose the ability to edit changes since its been nearly 4 weeks on this post.

Conditions will be at post #91 for the next 4 weeks so editing may continue.

At then end of those four weeks either a new thread will be started if needed, or a new redirect from post #91.

I will try to keep updates current on MTBR.com in the Texas forum.

ODT

You can also follow Boulder Park at Boulder Park - Sports/Recreation/Activities - Dallas, TX | Facebook

This stays up to date even dorba.org is down.

Just trying to work out a way so all trails can possibly be updated from one site when we have our recurring Dorba outages.

We have a facebook page for River Legacy as well. It doesn't see much use honestly.

Mainly us who work on the trail visit/know of it.

Most of us know of MTBR. Hopefully most will remember that someone is attempting to maintain a current as possible trail condition list over there as well.

Hopefully most will remember to check there when Dorba is down.

Stewards can help out by posting there or emailing me. No one has to or should feel obligated, but it would help a lot of riders out when we are having on and off rain with an on and off Dorba.

Good thing this is here it seems like Dorba is down every other day. I plan on hitting Big Cedar this afternoon and am guessing with no change in weather that there is no reason it would be closed.

It is good, but a shame that we have to rely on this thread instead of the official DORBA trail status page.

Still, its a handy second source for trail status. Thanks ODT!

Maybe worth adding an extra line to your status:

DORBA website..........OFFLINE.........2-7-12

big +1 there!!

Ironic thing is updating those 24 trails would be much less work than trying to update the constant on/off of the Dorba site.

I wanted to come to the defense of DORBA... From what I understand, the current system is maintained by one volunteer. I remember seeing a post explaining that the membership had simply outgrown the site's capabilities and the amount of time to maintain the site exceeded what a volunteer could offer. DORBA recently put out a request for quotes to have the site commercially maintained.

Although it is frustrating the site has recently been down often, I'm not going to bash on DORBA. It's primarily a volunteer organization and I think they've done a great job so far.

I agree they are working on it and hopefully it will be stable soon. In the mean time I'm going to poke some fun at them

Sounds about right.
But no one is bashing Dorba.
The truth is it would be more work to keep up with the crashes than keep the trails updated.
We are attempting to work out a usable system so riders can have accurate and current information until a stable site/adminstrator can be found by the new Dorba board members.

My post may have come across as a bit harsh or accusatory. That was not my intention and I apologize if it did. I'm glad this didn't devolve into a "the dorba web page suckz!!1" thread.

And, I like the idea of keeping the trail conditions updated on here, also. I've met a couple of local MTB'ers that didn't even know about the DORBA website. Free publicity for an organization that deserves it.

If anyone can post an update for Arbor Hills, I'd appreciate it. Don't think we received much rain last night up north.

Dorba site not accurate. Big Cedar people emailed me to post the closure here. Closure has not shown up on Dorba yet. So people will be heading there and either figure out its closed or ride it causing damage because as far as they know the trail is open.

Imagine being the trail steward and not being able to update. Would you want to sit there all day constantly checking to see if Dorba is up and running?

All reasons why a thread over here makes the most sense right now. So we can keep current with updates. Hopefully when Dorba crashes a few of the stewards will start posting here.

I posted this last night on Dorba while it was up and running. It was deleted by a mod overnight. (Dorba was up and running around 7 AM Northshore still showed to be closed.)

"Remember DorbaX. Actually did a search for it about a 2 weeks ago when Dorba was crashing for hours at a time. Thanks for taking the time to build DorbaX Bob...

That site kept many of us riding when Dorba wasn't running.

I am attempting to keep us riding by listing current conditions over on MTBR. Not as nice of a solution as X was, but it has gotten some people out riding when Dorba has been off line.

http://forums.mtbr.com/texas/dallas-...ns-766708.html ""

Why?? Who knows. Does it matter? Like "The Bob" said. Admins and mods need to be seperate entities.

Good news is Dorba mods can't delete things over here on MTBR.

I am the guy that created DORBAX. My intent was to show the club what could be. I caught much flack as I am not a DORBA insider. I thought some of my ideas would be utilize but alas it was not to be. You must be one of a handful of select insiders that race for your ideas to be adopted by DORBA.

I am inclined to once again fire up DORBAX.

And thanks for helping out, while DORBA is in the crapper, odtexas! I certainly appreciate your efforts.

Because it is maintained by a hobbyist that uses it for learning about how websites work.

Several years ago it was decided that allowing an insider to maintain the thing, the hobbyist, was more important than performance. It was a buddy thing.

So now I get this email. I did edit the confirmation/password link.

COD,

Your account at DORBA has been activated.

You may now log in by clicking on this link or copying and pasting it in your
browser:

http://www.dorba.org/user/reset/

This is a one-time login, so it can be used only once.

After logging in, you will be redirected to http://www.dorba.org/user/39/edit
so you can change your password.

Once you have set your own password, you will be able to log in to
User account | DORBA in the future using:

username: COD

So is there a system error at Dorba or is this just the way the current admin is showing that he doesn't like his system questioned?

Dorba has enough problems without going after those trying to help riders find open trails.
Maybe put more time into coding and less into snooping/harrassing.

It's nice to see posts on this thread that reflect the exact same opinions I have had about DORBA for the past couple of years. I thought it was only me.

Site down again today, but it is 4PM, so that is to be expected. Ride on.

No problem. Hopefully, users will check here when site is down. I asked about creating twitter accounts and they said it is possible. Don't know timeline. I myself don't have twitter, so hopefully it can be tied in to my Dorba account, somehow.

@rl.roberston....post up a trail update on those slick corner and puddles. Most are on loop one.

***Boulder Park Trail Update***
If we don't receive any rain the trail would be ready for Saturday, however the trail can't afford another ounce of precipitation. With 40% chance of rain Friday night and 70% for Saturday doesn't look good. We make the decision later tonight.

Yep, it's a little "slick".. Mostly in loop 1 and 2 as someone had mentioned.. Also a downed tree limb on 6.1, just before you come into the area with all the signs/bike parts. I wasn't able to move it. On the second lap, I ducked and stayed to the right of the limb and made it through.

I had a good time, just be careful on the climbs... rooty/rocky climbs + muddy hardpack tires = big challenge. As long as you don't mind getting your equipment muddy, 95% of the trail is in decent shape.

Pulled off OCNP @ 6P, as mentioned above a few small puddles on on 1 & 2, most of the rest was fine. Nice trail, great ride.

Jny5 are you the fast guy that passed me and my buddy? mostly black riding gear with a headlight?

Took another friend out for his first time and it was a blast. Loop 1 and 2 still had quite a few slick corners but the rest of the trail was great. The downed tree will probably have to be cut to be moved its rather big.

Both going to be closed for a while. Sansom has seeps. Water runs underground and seeps out at lower sections of the trail. Takes a while for all the water to work its way through the ground.
River Legacy will be a while.
The gate jumper damaged sections will take 7-10 days minimum to be rideable without rain.
We are repairing these sections. When repaired it would only take 3-4 days without rain for the trail to be rideable. The worst mud pit was fixed Friday 2-17-2012. Only about 6 more to take care of.

Boulder Park

Trail needs a little more drying time. Also both creek crossings (rope creek crossing & creek crossing on Cash Ext) are destroyed by horse again. Approach with caution.

I won't be able to rework them until next week.

It's cool, but doesn't only work when Dorba is working?
Which is the problem we are having to work around by having a thread on a stable platform like MTBR.

Here's a better question...
Since the crashing is an on going problem why hasn't any of the Dorba board member bothered to set up or support a thread on MTBR or FWMBA as an alternative.

Maybe a link and information blurb on the Dorba front page reminding people to check here instead of not knowing what is open.

And yes the link won't be there when Dorba crashes, but maybe more people will remember that there is a trail conditions thread on MTBR.

I know some board members are new, but this is an issue they should have made a priority.

Dorba is still down this morning. This is the time we need it the most. Its raining a bit, but difficult to know if the trails received enough rain to close.

I know they have someone working on a new site, but the current one needs to be supported until the switchover.

As OD mentioned, we really need another outlet to report trail conditions. This is a good enough place for me, but to make it work, Dorba needs to get actively involved.

My thoughts,

I wish people complaining about Dorba or the website would spend that energy and enthusiasm helping to maintain our trails.

If it is raining, or has rained on a trail in the last 24 hours, it's likely to be closed.

Let me guess, you posted here because Dorba is down again?

So far this year I have more trail maintenance time than ride time. Rain has played a big part of that.

Keeping trail information is important. Past board members telling new board members to pass amendments that the old board people wrote is a pathetic use of the Dorba site.

Amazing how race cancellations and amendment argument threads get posted to the front page, but no attempt of any sort is made to support alternative trail conditions information.

No wonder half of them were voted out...

Obviously we haven't met. Other than my steward posts, I'm sure my post count there is lower than it is here.

I'm glad you posted trail conditions here, but I know that bashing dorba and it's board accomplishes nothing. The last thing this sport and area needs is more infighting. A whole lot of us pour money into trails that others who make no contribution destroy and trash on a regular basis. We talk about building sustainable trails, but we make little effort as a group to actually do the work and contribute the time and money to sustain them. If you have done trail work, I say thanks. If not, I say contact your local trail steward and get to work.

My experience has been the contrary. This comes from countless times I am greeted by people riding my trail that is not only closed on dorba, here, facebook and a big sign at the entrance, but has been significantly under water for a while. I don't hesitate to ask if they noticed the trail was closed and I receive a plethora of responses that indicate that they were aware but chose to ride anyway.

That sucks. Maybe you could take a picture of their vehicle and post it up. Most of the dorbs I see using the local trail while it's muddy never heard of dorba.

Even though I've never ridden that side of the lake (hard to pass up Northshore), thanks for your time and effort out there.

Believe me, I have considered posting some pics, I'm pretty sure a lot of it comes from my trail being so rough and being uncared for so long, but it is no less aggravating.

Had the same thing happen Friday at River Legacy when I was out fixing bridges. RL was closed. Had riders out there anyway.
People don't stop at stop signs. People cut you off in traffic. People have their dogs off leash on trails. Just human nature.
I accept that filling in ruts is part of the job description.
It's cool if you have met the board and that they are good people, but information needs to get out ASAP to riders. This keeps the "good" ones who do respect signs and closure information from wasting drive time. Or last Friday for me putting RL trail work before my riding time. Many trails were open if I wanted to ride....
Good or bad peope beside the point..... Intentions are beside the point. Minimal competency would having a back up plan for trail information if site crashes are a known problem.
Think of it like carrying a spare tube, powerlink, CO2 canister while riding.
Common sense....
I would guess that this lack of support is purposeful and not incompetence. Especially since someone with administrative access reset/tampered with my Dorba account soon after I started this thread.

Trail IS CLOSED! Just drive out there and the sign said closed and another rider had been on the trail because of the status here (Dorba), and his tires were caked and he bailed because it was unridable.

I was just trying to see if ANY trails were open. Anyone know? Did it rain a lot at northshore today? I really need to practice the rocky climb and decent down by rock ledge. Those two sections keep freaking me out and messing with my head.

As of last night, Isle Du Bois, Erwin, & Horseshoe were open, as well. Arbor Hills got some light rain and should be open by Monday.

I was surprised about Erwin's status, but kona42 said only 0.03 inches of rain fell, so the ground soaked up pretty quickly.

Tyler State Park is probably your best bet at this point, and that's probably only if the rain doesn't make it that far east. You'll definitely want to talk to a ranger there before heading out, should you decide to go.

Right after I started this thread on MTBR I had my Dorba 2.0 account reset/tampered with by that sites Admin.

So after that site finally completely crashed I joined the new site.

No unknown tampering this time.

They came right out and gloated.

"You have been removed from Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association.

The person who removed you said:

----------------------------------------------------------------
So far... you're more trouble than you're worth. Bye."
----------------------------------------------------------------

This why the old site had issues. We had egomaniacs running it who would not listen to others or accept help from the community. Their system is the best was and only way. Even though it has completely fallen apart as of now.
I guess pointing out of that fact isn't a good thing and gives them butt hurt.

These/this same person went after IMBA.
Here is a link to the thread.

Here is an excerpt.
Re: Interesting perspective
by mango Wed Jul 13, 2011 6:18 pm

So I certainly haven't said, and I don't think anyone else in the thread has said:

IMBA is bad
IMBA coerces clubs into the chapter program
IMBA does bad things or mismanages trails

I just want to know what the 60% of our clubs money going to Denver is getting us. I don't have any ill feelings towards IMBA, SORBA, or anyone who made any decisions to join forces. I do think if anyone is taking 60% of the local membership resources, they should provide a high level of accountability for how they use those resources and the value they deliver back to the local clubs.

This is a great opportunity to educate me and the rest of the people on the forum as to what IMBA is doing here in the south-east to support local clubs and mountain biking in the region.

So, what you are saying is that you were randomly and unjustly targeted by the egotistical folks running DORBA website because you were only trying to help? Every story has two sides, and I am sure that if the DORBA admins were to tell their side, it would be a little different.

There are all types of folks on the DORBA forum, and the only people I have ever seen banned were accounts belonging to bots and spammers. So, if you got banned like you describe then you must have been a real PITA indeed.

But I am sure everyone here at MTBR feels really badly for you.

Not too worried about who feels what PDF.
Goal has always been to keep accurate trail information available for all riders.
This thread exists due to Dorba admins inability to get basic trail condition information out or come up with an alternative site.
Multiple people offered to help. They were turned down.
Many of us are tired of being told to wait until things get better.
We have heard that for years and again just yesterday.

It now looks like the new patch site might actually be stable and contain up to date trail information.

Too bad a secondary patch site wasn't set up a few months ago so this whole update thread would not have been needed.

PDF, dude, you are way off base. odtexas's version is way way more accurate in regard to how DORBA is run.

Dorba 2.0 has been for sure.

Hoping 3.0 has adults running it instead of 51 year old children.

Friday night posting from Dorba patch site.
Sign flipped to open today. Not too bad - a few wet spots and a bit overgrown but open and rideable.
Just remember that on the old site this trail was only open 2.5 miles in from trail head due to deep standing water after that point.

Thanks odtexas for getting this started and to everyone else for contributing.

Knob Hills was still open this morning.
Has anyone ridden here recently? Last I heard it was overrun with poison ivy and it has been closed for a few weeks before opening.

Corinth Trail is also open. Not sure why DORBA doesn't include on their list. But FYI.

Never heard of Corinth Trail. Is it new?
I will add, but I have no idea how to keep up to date on it in the future. I guess maybe you do.

Just looked it up and linked the MTBTX website description to it. There is a city contact number listed. If it is in your area though feel free to bump the thread with condition changes.

Corinth trail is maintained by the City of Corinth and Corinth Cycling Club.

Trail Conditions Forum:
corinthcycling.freeforums.org/corinth-trail-f7.html]Corinth Cycling Forum • View forum - Corinth Trail
It is between Denton and Flower Mound. Fun trail but pretty easy. ~6 miles and very twisty. You can park at the Corinth court house to access it (other places in the park too). Thats about all I know.

I've never heard of the Corinth trail and I don't live too far from there. Looks like it might be a great place to take my young kids. I'd also be interested in knowing if there were other (non-dorba) trails around.

I agree, but does DORBA maintain the FWMBA trails or LBJ grasslands?

Any other DFW mountain biking groups with trails in the area that aren't shown on DORBA? I wonder if there are any other hidden ones out there.

Question from the newbie...........which trail would anyone recommend for a 1 month mountian bike rider and his rookie wife. Please keep in mind that we both have jobs that broken bones would prevent us from working. We have hiked at Palo Duro and want to go back with the bikes it that helps to compare. That is about as rough as we want for now.

Look for the next beginner clinic -- they're free and happen on a monthly basis (typically the second weekend of each month.) Another possibility would be to come out to Rowlett Creek Preserve Wednesday evenings -- there's a group ride that happens each week that the trail is open, and the ride splits into different groups based on skill levels.

If you're just out on your own, Rowlett Creek is good as long as you stick to loops 1 and 2-5. At RCP, there's a blue signpost at the places where a new loop splits off. If you go left, you go on the new loop, if you go right, you bypass the new loop. The loops at RCP are not numbered in the order you encounter them, so don't get confused if you see the signpost for loop 7 before you see 2-5.

LB Houston is also good. It's flat but can still be a good ride through the woods. If you're just beginning, you might consider skipping the Dips loop and Tech loop.

River Legacy is also good -- just take any blue option when given a choice between a blue or red to get the easiest ride out there.

The DORBA beginner clinics typically alternate between River Legacy and LB Houston.

For beginners:
The ones already listed
Greenbelt (limestone jogging Path)
Corinth (great place to start)
Horseshoe (sun and ski do a thursday night ride open to all with all dif levels).

If you can do horseshoe then you can do the majority of most trails without many worries.

They came right out and gloated.

"You have been removed from Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association.

The person who removed you said:

So far... you're more trouble than you're worth. Bye."

This why the old site had issues. We had egomaniacs running it who would not listen to others or accept help from the community. Their system is the best was and only way. Even though it has completely fallen apart as of now.
I guess pointing out of that fact isn't a good thing and gives them butt hurt.
Such a shame that speaking your mind and actually trying to help garnered such a response. I don't doubt your side of events OD.

It happens.
New site should be up and running soon and it will be under new management.
Hopefully this thread won't be needed anymore.

Horseshoe needs a few new signs to help keep the trail one way. I live near by and can help, but would like someone more in the know to let me know officially.

Also north shore has one area that needs signage on the return leg to rockledge. I took a wrong branch and had to backtrack.

"Grungle" (on the old and the current temporary DORBA site) is the Horseshoe trail steward. He would be the best person to contact about this.

There is a workday there this Saturday (5/19/2012) at 8am, as well, and one of the planned tasks is to work on signage.

Don't bother. This thread was created because the DORBA site is never working. I just checked and the site is still down. They do have a Facebook.

That's OK, since they cancelled the workday. At any rate, Travis ("Grungle") is the guy you want to talk to about things at Horseshoe.

I am one one of the River Rats (sort of like the assistant to the assistant trail steward) and I can confirm that River Legacy Trail is closed because I closed it this afternoon. I rode last night and it was very tacky. We got a decent amount of rain overnight and it was muddy this afternoon. I will post here when we reopen it.
