    Magic hub bolts

I scored a Surly hub not too long ago that came without hub bolts. Will good old BMX hub bolts work or is there any magic I need to be aware of to keep the hub from slipping on my 1x1? There's an LBS down the street that sells them for 50 cents each.

All of the Surly hubs are 9x1 or 10x1 (front and rear respectivley) while BMX axles are 3/8 x 26tpi. So, if you value your axle (and life), don't use the BMX nuts. The 9x1 and 10x1 axle nuts are a little uncommon but allow you to swap out the solid axle for a hollow QR axle if you so desire. Your LBS probably has some lying around somewhere from the days when solid axles were the rule, but you may have to pay more than 50 cents.

    Just tell Surly

If the hub came missing parts, tell Surly via email. The Surly nuts are good ones IMHO
This isn't a "you're doing it wrong" topic.

Thanks guys, you're life savers! I bought the hub used at a garage sale! The seller didn't know where it came from (wasn't even sure what it was actually!)
