    Karate Monkey and ECR fork and ECR handling

    Hey all, I was wondering if anyone else had done this;
    I recently replaced my 2010 KM fork with an ECR fork, mainly because I liked the idea of having the extra barnacles and getting rid of the canti bosses. I knew they had an extra 5mm rake and, as I was using a Knard anyway, thought that this would be fine.
    I built it up and couldn't believe the difference in handling- stable doesn't describe it. It feels like it takes a lot to muscle the wheel about now, to the point where it's almost impossible to ride no-handed; the forks just don't want to turn!
    What I would like to know is, has anyone else tried this?
    How does the ECR handle in comparison?
    The headset seems okay, not indexing, so do I just put it down to experience??

    I wouldn't expect even a noticeable difference given the forks have the same length and there is only 5mm difference in rake. If anything, the ECR fork should make the KM more twitchy, not more stable.

    When I built up my KM, I installed one piece of the headset backwards and it caused similar problems to what you describe. Are you sure the headset is installed correctly?

    I didn't think the handling would have been affected that much, like you say, only 5mm.
    If anything, I would have thought it would perhaps compensate for the bigger tyre on the front.
    I'll check the headset over, its a VP sealed one. Maybe the bottom race got warped by some clumsy fool (me).
