Anyone running wooden fenders on their Surly?

After my last ride on a muddy trail, I am considering making a set of wooden fenders. I have found several online resources offering tips and tricks for building a set but I don't know if it would be worth it. Does anyone run wooden fenders on their Surly? What is your opinion on them?

Totally rocked man. I am happy to report massive wood afterwards.

    I have admired these:

...but am fairly certain I would ruin them within a few rides of owning them

Those woodys fenders are nice looking, might get a set eventually. Right now I have the crud buster up front and rack/fender combo out back. He told me he would need to shorten up the rear fender to clear the front derailuer cable.

I am considering building a set. They won't be as pretty as the woody (which I have also admired) but they will be functional, simple, and custom. Some of the stainless hardware might be hard to come by but it would be worth it to me to drop $20 in homemade fenders compared to $120.
