175 mm cranks on small Surly Ogre FIt? On Surleys site 170 mm comes on small : (

    Hi,

Im looking to commute on a small OGRE (Im 5'6 and hope it fits... sure does look small) and am sitting here waiting for DHL to get me the wheels...

I bought the Deore 610 48t 175 for more speed on the road... was thinking that extra 5mm would help me go faster....

And now I see that on every frame but the small Surly bikes come from with 175 and the small is 170...

Have I made a serious mistake ? I cant return the cranks... I hope they will work and not hit the ground..... Anyone know? I already lost money by buying 2 x 200 mm rotors for the bb7.... : (

Absolutely nothing to worry about. Crank length is mostly a subjective matter and 175 mm is a common length to use. BB drop is the same between frame sizes, as you can see from the Surly website geo chart.

Aren't 200 mm rotors OK with BB7's, just pick a suitable adapter?

"The front rotor can be used with the correct adapter, but it's not recommended to use a rotor that big with a standard quick release axle.

The rear rotor will not work as the chainstay brake mount limits you to a 160mm rotor."

I don't see why you'd need a 200mm rotor on a commuter. 160s should be fine. Or 180s. Or one of each.

Smaller in the rear is good for brake balance. I have 185/F 160/R.

I overlooked the brake mounting inside the rear triangle. That can't be fixed with adapters.
