    crank: 2010 XX v 2011 X.0

i'm thinking of upgrading the drivetrain to 2x9 soon...

wondering whether to go ahead with the XX cranks or wait for the X.0 ones? when will 2011 X.0 be available? and what's the expected pricing of the X.0 crankset? XX is currently $430.

    thoughts on this setup?

XX cranks 26-39T + GXP Team bb
    X.0 gripshift
    XT front der
    X.0 med cage rear der
    XT 32-11T cassette
XTR chain (better shifting with SRAM?)

You will likely need a 10 speed chain if you are using 10 speed cranks. It'll work fine on the 9 speed cassette and derailleur. A 9 speed chain will try to shift up to the big ring when you cross chain from the small ring and the 12 or 11 T cog. Atleats, this is my experience.

they only have the 42-28T in stock. i want the 39-26T combo. wonder if pricepoint will match wheelworld?

    will a 10-speed chain work on a 9-speed cassette?

Are you worried about Q-factor? XX has mutliple Q factors including the narrow 156 mm and X.0 runs standard Q-factor. I noticed the difference between my narrow road bike and wide mtb until I switched to XX 156 mm. Of course, you bike will need to support the 156 mm Q factor if that's what you want.

10 speed chain will work fine on 9 speed cassette.

i guess it might be worth doing some measurements to see if i can run a 156Q. btw, i'm throwing this on a '91 c'dale F3000.

Anybody had a problem using the X0 grip shift with the XX cranks and XT derailleur? This is what I plan to do as well and want to make sure it will work.
