    Offical Gen3 Enduro is better than Gen4 Enduro Thread
    Background:
    I've owned a 2010 and now a 2011 enduro. It is the business. As it sits stock in the shop, it is the stiffest, most stable, best pedaling, mountain leveling, do-it-all/make-puppies-cry bike. To reach this enlightenment of MTB'ing, I owned a nomad, reign, xam, chilcotin, sanction, slash, slayer and tracer before I realized the highest level of MTB'ing excellence is the enduro.

    Statement:
    However, Specialized thinks we want an enduro that will flex and not level mountains anymore. We the people, want a bike that will not do it all anymore...right? Instead of having a standard 20mm axle and 35-36mm stanction fork, they think we need to have a 34mm fork with a microscopic 15mm axle. I am appalled! They may have added 5mm more of suspension to the rear but that does not compensate for the loosey goosey, prostitute mess going on in the front. Shame on them.




    My 2011 Enduro comp with x9 components all around, giant contact switch seatpost and a 2010 fox talas with 2013 internals.

    So, you haven't actually ridden a bike with the fox 34, let alone the new generation Enduro?

    I've been on 36 20qrs for a long time and this year I switched to 34mm 15qr and didn't notice the difference except for when I put it on the scale. Half a pound!

    All I know is I tested the 2013 carbon expert yesterday and it was really the funnest bike I have ever ridden lol. Now, I am on a 2012 expert carbon stumpy 29er fsr now but I am now going to order one of these bad boys for the stable. What a hell of a bike in my mind :thumbsup:.
    This does not help enlighten anyone as I cannot compare fork sizes (sounds funny), so ignore this post if you wish :D

    Agreed, rode the 2007-2009, the 2010 I rode on mostly flat terrain, test rode the 2011 and test rode the 2012 and hammered the 2013 but I only noticed that the 2012 and 2013 weight was different in the shop.... other than that I didn't feel much of a difference between them.... At 180lbs and 6'2" and aggressive I would have expected a bit more of a difference... but maybe I was intent on beating the bike up to find some weaknesses too much to notice any subtleties.

    Everyone I know who has ridden the 2013 says it needs a Lyrik or 36 with at least 160mm.

    I've never ridden a Lyrik for more than 50ft in a warehouse... but more travel is almost always more fun to ride!

    In related news, have you noticed that 170-180mm FR forks are no longer 38-40mm stanchion monstrosities. They are now the 35-36mm stanchion AM forks of a year or two ago?

    I had a 32mm stanchion Nixon on a coiled out 06 Enduro, and the only terrain that got it twangy was NorthStar big chunk, fast terrain.

    I thought the Fox 34 was an odd spec at first for the 2013 Enduro, but I'm looking forward to trying it and dropping a half pound for manualling.

    I rode a 2007 quite a bit and now have a 2010 Expert. It was a Pro, but the frame cracked and was replaced with an aluminum frame with pro components. Anyways, LOVED the difference on the 2010 model over the Gen2 model, especially in the front end. Much lighter and more flickable. Love the bike all the way around with the exception of not being able to stand up and mash the pedals. Definitely a sit and spin bike.

    Looks like they have that figured out for 2013. Happy to see the stiffer back and and will reserve judgement on the 34mm forks. I have friends that have 2011 and 12's and they feel the same as my 2010, just a great bike. HOWEVER, I am really disappointed with the pricing of the new 2013's. The Expert should have a choice between carbon and aluminum. I really feel they are starting to price themselves out of the market. $3k-$4k for this bike (on sale or new) is a great price point, but over $6k for not even the S-Works is just too much. Especially when you are used to an Expert model and now the Comp is the price of an Expert with downgraded components. Not good.

    Just think it is a bad marketing strategy here. I was looking forward to upgrading to the 2013, but there are a lot of options out there for much less money. Really hard to justify the upgrade, no matter how good the bike is.

    It needs more than the fork that is stock on the Stumpy Evo. That is obvious really. It also needs the extra A-C. Specialized just played the weight game with the 13 Enduro which is a shame.

    I think this thread is more complaining about the fork spec - than the frameset.

    I agree, but it seems a lot of brands are doing the same thing, making the same mistake! People don't want a noodle fork on a kickas$ all conquering all mountain frame.

    I have no problem with 34mm fork legs, by BOS deville is 34mm and easily as stiff as a fox 36. However a 15mm axle???? c'mon wtf fox? and wtf brands speccing great frames with this fork?
