Cracking sound when I hit a bump

I'm getting a loud cracking sound when descending (not pedaling) offroad with bumps. Sounds like aluminum hitting aluminum, coming from the rear triangle area. The bigger the bump, the louder the crack. It's not chain slap because I can hear that too, and that's a lot more subdued. New BB, crankset, chain, cassette. 2009 Stumpy HT 29er. I'm thinking somewhere in the hub, although while pedaling everything works (and sounds) normally. Possibly a crack in the frame? I can't see one. Any other sources I could be missing? Thanks in advance.

Weird. I would say try and get some video but when I tried to do that to diagnose my creaking noise, all you could hear is the wind. Cracking noise? Hmmm can't picture it.

    Cassette not tight?

If it doesn't make a noise when pedalling then it looks to be a drivetrain issue, most of which you say is new. Check each one (remove and refit if necessary).

Check your seat/seatpost too. I have a "click" noise coming from my seat that I cant tame for the life of me, but atleast knowing where it comes from has calmed me down since it is nothing harmful to the bike itself.

Seat post is my guess. Apply appropriate grease for carbon or alloy, whichever you have.

Might be a long shot but check the through axle and/or skewers. Had a bad creak in the back and it turned out that the through axle was in need of a light coating of grease. If it's metal touching metal, grease it.
