New question here. 2014 Stumpjumper HT Carbon Comp v 2013 Stumpjumper HT Carbon Comp

Hi all, long time lurker. I'm normally a road biker but recently moved near the mountains. I've been using an ancient beaten-up fully for a while. I've researched but can't find a significant difference (if any) between the 2014 and 2013 models. Would have been helpful if the manufacturer had a comparison table.
LBS is offering the 2013 model for CHF2700 ready to take away immediately. Official retail (Swiss dealers expect customers to pay in full usually) is CHF 3149.
However I now found the 2014 version official price is adjusted down to CHF 3000. Not sure when available.
Is it worth paying 11% more for the 2014 ?
XC (PS ... couldn't create paragraphs.)

2014 Stumpjumper HT Carbon Comp v 2013 Stumpjumper HT Carbon Comp

There are a couple of significant differences between the 2013 and 2014 Stumpjumper HT Carbon models.

The 2014 bike has a 15mm thru axle fork whilst the 2013 bike has a standard quick release fork. The 15mm thru axle should help a bit with steering precision and also makes it much easier to remove and replace the front wheel without finding the need to re-align the disc brake calipers.

The 2014 bike has Formula C1 brakes whilst the 2013 bike has Magura MTS brakes. Personally, I wouldn't want either of those brakes. I'd try to get them changed out for Shimano Deore XT M785 disc brakes and Shimano RT-86 Ice Tech brake rotors from new.

Apart from that it's just a case of which colour scheme you prefer.

Thanks WR304 for sharing your insight. Good points indeed. I'll hold back for the 2014.

I have the 2013 Comp carbon and I love it. I haven't had any problems with the 9mm front. If I were to buy a new fork I might opt for it, but not something I just have to have. Favorite bike I've owned.
The stock brake pads suck (built for longevity from what I was told) but thats a cheap fix. I'm not a fan of their HiLo rear hub. I've had it in the shop twice and makes noise like the bearings are dry, but open it up and everything is fine. I didn't have any plan on keeping them (or most of the stock parts for that matter) so I didn't let it get in the way much.
    Livin' the dream.
