    2012 Specialized release date

Anyone have any idea when the 2012 hardrocks will be coming out (in Aus)? Considering buying either a hardrock disc ($520) or sports disc ($699) in the next few weeks. Is the extra $180 for the sports disc worth the money compared to disc?

    cheers

Interesting,I really wonder if they will keep the same specs for upper line models,I can't wait to see it,really . I guess we will see some kashima in the Sworks line, that for sure. Maybe I should just go ahead and buy a '11 Epic Expert now at a discounted price......

    When last year?

Does anybody know when (in 2010) the 2011 Rockhoppers became available? It would probably be about the same time this year for the 2012s, right?

Great website and forum. (This is my first post.)

I started seeing 2011 Rockhoppers at the LBS in June of last year, if I remember correctly.

However, I'm in very close proximity to one Specialized's major distribution centers and our area has a tendency to get bikes early.

I'm going to get my 2011 Hardrock sport disc tomorrow morning! All they changed for 2012 is the colors... I saw the 2012 when I went Saturday. They are arriving now at the LBS. Plus they are giving it to me for $570...

It's going to be my second bike as a backup to my 2011 Crosstrail sport disc(which is basically a 29r.

Guy at the LBS here said he's seen the 2012 models via a dealer-only website. He says they're 'really cool.' He didn't have a solid release date, but he guessed Jul-Aug, with most models arriving by August.

Is there typically a release event, or some sort of notice?

MBR on their twitter stated they were in europe for two weeks from the 13th June. They also mentioned Lapierre and Specialized. My Guess is the usual Europe Press camp.

Color scheme it's ok on this bike but I hope they will keep more bright colors for both Stumpy and Epic. Black color is very 2010 IMHO......

    Idea!

    Considering a 2011 or 2012 Stumpy Comp 29er
Does any one have any pics of the 2012 Stump Comp 29er HT? Or does anyone know when it comes out?

My guess is that the specs won't change very much. If that's the case, I'd keep my eye on my LBS for them to discount the 2011's so you can walk out with a great deal.

I went to my LBS and was going to order a 2011 Specialized Sport Disc, and they sold me the new 2012 model for $570 they will be ordering it tomorrow for me. I really wanted the red look but the price was nice. The 2012 only comes in 1 color I guess, black spunk something.

    hey guys,
first post on mtbr. i just got an 11' specialized hardrock(black/grey)and am going to start doing some upgrades soon. I was wondering-are the fast trak lk's that come on the hardrock known to have high rolling resistance? It seems somewhat hard to get them going. Otherwise love the bike. I was also wondering, in terms of upgrades, are the neuvation wheels any good? The mtn max aeros are $30 a piece, and seem to be really good. I was planning to switch out wheels and brakes so that I could get disk brakes. any other recommendations in terms of upgrades? thanks

The Fast Traks are a fast rolling tire, hence the name and the LK stands for" low knob" which is their "race version" of this tire. It's probably your stock/heavy ass wheel set. Try getting a nice set of wheels that weigh in around 1700-1900 grams and see how big the difference is.

And if you have a 29er, that makes sense, there are a bunch of clowns in those clown wheels you have. IMO.

Tried them? Never heard of them till now. $30? You can't by a good set of spokes for $30. Maybe it is the deal of the century, or...

Good God Man!!!! Would you trust a $30 wheel? Hell no.

You get what you pay for, good quality wheels are not cheap. Start looking on ebay ot he MTBR classifieds for some used wheels if you can afford new. Or sometimes you can find last years model at a discount........ Mavic, Chris King, I9, Stans, XT, XTR etc.

I saw a pair of 2012 Rockhoppers yesterday, the matte/flat silver finish was nice and I liked the red/white one, good looking bikes.
Hardrock 29er, Niner EMD9, Cannondale F29, Camber Expert, 650b Nickel all gone.

I am also disappointed, they only have 1 color for the 2012 and its not a great color. I wanted the red, but was too late and he gave me a good deal on a new 2012.

I'm looking to purchase my first mountain bike and I've decided I want a Hardrock. One question though, it says on the web site that the base model is equipped with disc brake mounts for easy upgrading. What would be involved in upgrading it to disc brakes? What are all the parts needed and roughly how much might that cost?

The only reason I ask is because I want disc brakes but I want the bike color that is only offered in the base model.

    Thank you!

You can get a set of BB7s(better than the BB5s found on the Hardrock Sport Disc model) for around $100ish.

Just yesterday I had MIke's Bikes in Berkeley bring in a 17.5 RH Pro 29'er for me, ie. to buy. On a whim, I google around tonight and find the 2012's are now starting to arrive! I don't care about paint jobs - more about components... does anyone know if the 2012 RH Pro 29'er is getting any upgrades? Should I wait?

Was able to find a bit of info. Kozy's in Chicago lists the specs for the RH Comp 29'er, and yes, there are notable upgrades over the 2011 model. The 2012 RH Comp is much closer to the 2011 RH Expert now.

So, if that's any indication, I'd expect to see some decent upgrades on the 2012 Pro as well. Yay? And damn... now I've got to start the waiting all over again...

    Michoudi,

I will probably get a lot of hate mail for this, but from what I have heard and understand, the basic disc brakes that come on these bikes are pretty much just a sales gimic to make it a "higher end" bike and increase sales. The v-brakes are as good as the cable disc brakes. If you were going with hydraulic brakes, then that makes a big difference, which these are not and just a waste of money.

Correct me if I am wrong, anyone.

you would at least have disc brake compatible wheels if you wanted to upgrade to hydraulic later on. With a v brake model you may not get disc compatible wheels.

My friends 2012 RockHopper Pictured above has Hydraulic Disc Brakes, and even the 2011 models. If I recall correctly ALL rockhoppers ( Except the base one ) come with Hydraulic Disc.

As Djg24 noted it's better to at least have the mechanical version, I made the mistake of not spending more when I purchased a previous bike.

Yes I believe that the 2012 Rockhopper base is now the equivalent to the 2011 Rockhopper Comp from last year. Just got my 2012 base and it has hydraulic disc brakes

I'd agree with that on the Tectro discs, but the Avid BB5s aren't half bad except they kinda suck to adjust compared to the BB7s.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I wanted to buy the base model that came with v brakes, although their web site states that it comes with mounts for disc brakes. All I wanted to know was how much was involved in buying the v brake model and then converting it to disc brakes afterwards and how much that might cost. I was hoping it was just buying the disc brakes and calipers. I went to my LBS and checked it out. Turns out you would need to get new hubs too.

At any rate, I ended up getting a Rockhopper Comp instead. Loving it so far.

You know what sucks. 2012 Specialized bikes aren't out in Ontario until October apparently. Anyone have any knowledge about that? Sorry my fellow Canadians.

Most of the mid to high end models aren't going to be available anywhere until September-October at the earliest.

I hope this holds true. I preordered a '12 Stumpy Evo HT several weeks ago and awaiting it's arrival. The wait has been torture.

I spoke to my LBS on the weekend and they are going to start getting the 2012 bikes in late August 2011 (this is in New Zealand).

Personally, I'm hanging out to see the RH Comp 29 in red/white. Looks really trick, IMO.

BTW, some good large pics here from a Japanese blog:
