    Racoon mountain conditions early April?

What’s the typical trail condition for raccoon mtn in early April? Making the trip up from New Orleans April 6th to do some much needed riding.

I would say Raccoon would be good to go, but it really depends on the weather. If for some reason it's not, Just up the road a bit, Sewanee is usually good to go almost all the time.

    Hopefully the weather cooperates.
Any recommendations as far as stringing together trails? We will have two vehicles and plan to stratigically park allowing some self shuttling.

we plan to make a day of it so we can enjoy the ride and rest as needed so somewhere on the order of 20miles depending on climbing.

High Voltage is my fav downhill anywhere. You can park at the boat ramp, ride up Live Wire 1 and 2, ride around on top, back down High Voltage. Some people shuttle from boat ramp.

Looks like you'll be driving by Oak Mtn. and fairly close to Coldwater Mtn. on the way to Raccoon Mtn. Sounds like a great road trip, if you have time to hit all three???

If you have a shuttle, I would do the inner loop counter clockwise, then go down High Voltage, use the shuttle to get back up to the top, then go down Livewire 1 and 2 back to the cars at the bottom

It looks like our trip is threatened by rain. How well does the trail system drain?

Raccoon is not one of the more wet-tolerant locations in my opinion. It is a lot of clay with rocks and roots.

Plus you're on top of a mtn much of the time. Not the best place to be when storms are threatening. I did that there once, trying to push to finish a ride before storms rolled in. It was unpleasant.

I know a few people who rode there this past weekend and had a great time, though.

Yeah this weekend will not be good for Coon. 100% chance of rain starting tonight. Nice and Sunny Sunday, but that trail doesn't drain well enough to ride that soon after a rain. Needs 2 days of sun.

You could hit Coldwater Sunday though. It is friggin PRIMO the day after rain!

Sorry to highjack this thread... I am thinking of heading out to Raccoon Mtn Wednesday. We got a lot of rain in NW Georgia and I suspect Chattanooga did as well. A couple of questions... Do you think the trails will be dry enough. And I read Live Wire 1 has bridges down. Will I have any trouble making a 25 mile day with the closure?
