Coming down to Ocala from Maine in March

Are there campgrounds near the good riding areas in Ocala area?

Yes. Yes there is. Santos Campground would be the best choice as it is @ the main trailhead. There are others like Shangri-la and Ross prairie that will also connect you to the trail in different parts. Book it now if you want any possible chance in March.

March 6th through the 8th is the Santos Fat Tire Festival.

Space may be limited and requires an event ticket to access the trailhead campground. All the trails are still open to the public during the FFT, albeit a little more crowded than usual.

Thanks for the info. Our schedule is for the end of March.
    Sounds like a fun event.
As it is snowing right now, I dream of warm air, blue sky and fresh dirt.

"A little more crowded than usual..."

It's a great time and last year we had record attendance over the weekend. Something like ~10k visitors. The only thing you have to pay for at FTF is if you want to ride in the 50mi Epic ride. Everything else, besides food/drinks of course, is free.

This year, we're having a grand opening of our flow trail that was actually built back in October by Sensus R.A.D. Trails, Cam Zink's trail building company. Cam is coming back down to do the grand opening as well as to have a group ride and judge a whip-off contest.

We've been putting in a lot of work the past few months, revamping the Vortex pit free-ride area. Built two new tables after one of our drops, one is 20' the other is 14.5' that ends with a 15' hip jump. Still working on a few other things as well, making the park more progressive.

If you're on Facebook, here's a few links to our group pages for the trails:

    Vortex FR group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2290688437672652/

We try to post updates, etc. on the group pages whenever we can.

Ok. Here is another question for you locals.
    Krampus (29+) or Instagator (27+) ?

All personal preference IMO. We have a good mix of people riding 29ers and 27.5s. I prefer 27.5 because it's more fun and nimble feeling, but that's just me.

Thanks. I am leaning toward the Gator with 27.5+.
We rode in NC (Brevard/Dupont Forest) this year and that bike was the perfect choice.
I do love my Krampus for up here In Maine.
